I have been on an antidepressant since the end of July and I still don’t feel any different. I was started on it when I ended my employment due to the stress I was experiencing at work and I have taken it everyday except once when I forgot. I don’t feel like my mood has changed at all. I’m still fatigued and I want to sleep all the time. I also stay in my room for most of the day away from my family for no reason. I don’t feel like doing anything during the day. I have insomnia, too, which makes it very difficult to maintain an active lifestyle during the day. This is really affecting my health and I think I might need to change to a different medication or add Abilify to my medication regiment. I really need to feel better because I am in need of a job and I can’t find one if I don’t leave the house! I have a doctor’s appointment on the 30th and I plan to tell the doctor everything that’s been going on. My hope is that we can find out why my current medication is not working and make the necessary changes so that I can feel better.

Please pray for me. :o

Hi There… Sorry you’re feeling so bad.

Since we’re not to give medical advise… I’ll just share a personal story. You should however, make an appt. with your Dr. to talk over your health and such.

I tend to be high anxiety. I moved to the Pacific Northwest where it rains all the time. Within a few months I was having panic attacks all the time, and I was so depressed I could barely function. Thing was, I felt terrible, but didn’t really have a reason WHY. NOthing in my life was so terrible I should feel like this.

YEARS and YEARS later of try different anti depressants that did NOTHING for ME!!! I ended up getting tested for other things… One… my thryoid was in the game… a poor functioning thryoid can make you “depressed.” Lots of other symptoms that I just ignored. I also was EXTREMELY low on Vit. D. Now I take D, I don’t even need thyroid anymore, and BANG… I feel soo much better…

There are very few locations in the US that a person can get adequate Vit. D naturally from sun exposure, and then we slather on sun screen, and stay indoors anyhow… It’s becoming a HUGE problem… You will see more and more written about it in the next few years…

I’m sure the MFG companies of anti depressants are going to need to take their own meds… 'cause it’s CRAZY to think that EVERYONE needs one… There has to be something else at play right?

Anyhow… Talk with your Doctor. Let them know how much this is interferring with your life and functionality, ask to have a full blood panel just to make sure you’re not missing something simple in your diet. And then maybe if it’s none of that… seek out a good therapist!

Hang in there!!! ETA (And OF COURSE… prayers your way!!!)

What are you exactly depressed about? Maybe your doctor will put you on another antidepressant when you go for your next appointment. I hope you’ll get better and I’ll say a pray for you. :gopray:

I will pray for you. I went through a severe clinical depression many years ago, so I can totally relate to how you feel. Sometimes it takes a while to find the correct med or dosage, and often the meds take a few weeks to kick in. It is good you are going to discuss this with your Dr. Sometimes this calls for a lot of patience. The first medication I was on gave me unpleasant side effects so I had to be switched, and the second one worked very well. I now no longer have to take any medication, been off of it a many years now and have not had a recurrence of the depression. It doesn’t have to be a forever thing.

Also, do not be embarrassed by the fact you are depressed and need medication. I was embarrassed at first, but it’s just like any other illness and many people go through this and recover with treatment. God bless you.

Thank you all for your prayers. I am not embarrassed about my illness. I’ve learned to deal with it since I have had it off and on since July 1999. I’m so tired of trying to get the right antidepressant though. It seems that every time I have a relapse, I go on the same thing I was on before and it doesn’t work. It happened with Zoloft too. I’ve tried several different ones in the past including Lexapro, Effexor, Lithium, Cymbalta, Zoloft, Paxil, and Abilify. Paxil caused a terrible reaction that mimicked bipolar disorder. Effexor caused weird eye changes that made me paranoid something was going to poke me in the eye. Everything appeared sharp. Lexapro wasn’t strong enough. Cymbalta made me more moody. I could go on and on. It makes me wonder what the next course of action will be. I don’t know of any other antidepressants that I haven’t tried. 😦

I am depressed because I have a chemical imbalance. It was kicked off by a friend’s death, which I have coped with, but the depression remains. No matter how many times I try to get off the meds, it comes back within a year or so. This time, it took almost 2 years to return. I’ve been tested for low thyroid hormones and Vitamin D deficiency. Neither were out of range. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which Dr. Oz said can cause biological changes such as depression. I will most likely have to stay medicated for the rest of my life. I’m ok with that, but I really need to find a medicine that works for a long period of time so I can get back to living life.

Please continue to pray.

(Bumping because I found my prayer request on the second page.)

Please continue to pray. Each day gets a little easier, but I am still struggling. I am hopeful that with teamwork, my doctor and I can figure out the best course of treatment so I can get back to living life to the fullest. I plan to start therapy again too so I can get to the root of what is causing these problems–stress. Thanks for your prayers.

O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.

I’m so sorry that you’re suffering like this. May our Blessed Mother be with you

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Thank you, poor_clare. Mary has been a constant source of love and comfort. I go to her whenever I need someone to talk to. 🙂

Hi there

I’ll keep you in my daily prayers. Mary has always helped me through bad patches. I hope that things get better for you soon.

God bless you,
Clare

Thank you all for your prayers. Today was kind of difficult. Not only did I feel ill physically, but I also felt bad mentally as well. I am hypersensitive and everything bothers me. Noise, stress, etc. The fact that I was tired most of the day just made it worse. I am going to try to go to bed early tonight and take some medicine to calm and relax me so that I can wake up tomorrow refreshed. Most nights, if I try to go to sleep without taking anything, I lay in bed staring at the ceiling.

Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for me!
St. Joseph, most chaste spouse of the Virgin, pray for me!
St. Dymphna, pray for me!
St. Raphael, the Archangel, pray for me!
St. Jude, pray for me!
St. Pio, pray for me!
St. Rita, pray for me!

Please pray all you angels and saints that I get a good night’s sleep. 🙂

I’m feeling a bit better today. I got out of the house for a while and went shopping with my mom and sister, however, by the afternoon, I was so tired that I had to come home and take a nap. My energy level is very low. I was supposed to go to my cousin’s birthday party this evening, but after my nap, I started feeling nauseous and I had a stomachache. I decided to stay home and rest. I am glad that my doctor’s appointment is next week. I really need to find out why I still don’t feel good.

*O Jesus, You suffered and died for us;
You understand suffering;
Teach me to understand my suffering as You do;
To bear it in union with You;
To offer it with You to atone for my sins
And to bring Your grace to souls in need.
Calm my fears; increase my trust.
May I gladly accept Your holy will
and become more like You in trial.
If it be Your will,
restore me to health
so that I may work for Your honor and glory
and the salvation of all men.
Amen.

Mary, help of the sick, pray for me.*

Hey DaughterofMary! I know what it’s like to have depression. I have been hospitalized more times than I can count for it. Anyway, if the anti-depressant still isn’t doing you any good, you should probably tell your doctor because you might need a higher dosage or a different anti-depressant. Not all medicines work for all people.

Anyway, I am praying for you!

Remember oh most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee oh Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. Oh Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness

give us the sense of Your presence,

Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,

Amen.

Lord, our God,
you graciously chose St. Dymphna
as patroness of those afflicted with mental
and nervous disorders.
She is thus an inspiration
and a symbol of charity
to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord,
through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr,
relief and consolation to all suffering such trials,
and especially those for whom we pray.

Please pray for DaughterofMary.

We beg You, Lord,
to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf.
Grant all those for whom we pray
patience in their sufferings
and resignation to Your divine will.
Please fill them with hope,
and grant them the relief and cure they so much desire.

We ask this through Christ our Lord
Who suffered agony in the garden.

Amen.

Thank you, Holly. It has been my plan to have my medication reevaluated and I made the doctor’s appointment for that reason. I don’t know if she’ll be able to up the dosage since it’s already at 300mg and that’s pretty high. But, I am not going to worry about it. I’m just glad the appointment is this Thursday. I’m continuing to take my medicine as prescribed until then. 🙂

Lord, hear our prayer.

Today went much better! My prayers must have been heard and answered! I woke up this morning instead of the afternoon and spent most of the day in the living room instead of my bedroom. Granted, I took a long nap from late afternoon til about 9:30pm. But I feel good. I’m listening to peppy music and just feeling joyful. Praised be Jesus Christ!!! 😃
