Please pray for me, I live in a big city, but I am alone. My only comfort is when I walk past my church at night and I see the sanctuary light flickering in the darkness…

I’ll keep you in my prayers. But why not get involved with any one of a number of Catholic groups. If you have a problem then get counselling, if you haven’t already.
Our lord and our Lady and your guardian angel are always with you.
Talk to them if your lonely. Hope things get better for you.

One of the great gifts of our Catholic faith is the certainty that we are never alone!

As you said, when you walk past a Catholic church, you know Jesus is present there, and in every Catholic church throughout the world!

Plus, He is with you at the whisper of His Holy name! So, too is our loving Heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit and our Beloved Mother Mary.

Then there are all the saints in heaven – our heavenly family who will pray for you if you only ask.

We have our guardian angel by our side always.

And there are countless religious – sisters, brothers, monks and priests – who pray for the Church (which includes you) around the clock, 24 hours a day!

St. Augustine said “Our souls are restless until they rest in Thee, O God.” Rest in Him and in the family He has given you on earth and in heaven.

I hope that you have sought medical care for your depression. I know of someone first hand that has suffered from this disease for many years. You can be in a room full of people and still feel alone. You could win the lottery and it would not really make any difference. One doctor mentioned that those who are very close to the Lord do get some comfort from their faith. However, there are some very good medicines that have helped millions of people. You have many friends here at the forums. There are some very caring folks that post here.

May God bless you
Deacon Tony

I am dealing with depression too. Going inside the church for daily mass, as well as regularly going to confession helps. Also, I am trying to reach out more socially (mainly through church but other places too) and will take advantage of my medical benefits from my job to find help with this depression.

I wish you well with dealing with your depression. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please know that you are not alone…so many people walk the streets that are depressed.
I’ll put your name in our prayer book next Sunday and ask the Lord to help you.
Please try and get involved with your local chruch and sign up to help the poor or homeless…beleive me, it will lift your spirits to help others, I’v done this once a month for our local homeless shelter and Salvation Army, it’s a great feeling:yup: … and you’ll meet lots of caring people.

Hi Luke,
Isn’t it consoling to know that He is there where that light is flickering and that you are mindful of that…I wonder how many people pass a church and never give it any thought?
I will add you to my prayer list and God Bless you in this beautiful season of Advent awaiting the coming of our Lord…
Annunciata:)

Hang stromg: I too at times feel lonely though I live with my parents: I feel that I am never going to find my soul mate: she must be out there.
Seek a prayer group, or get involved in volunteer work at Church.
Wish you the best.

I suffer from Bi-Polar II disease. I know how you feel about the loneliness and despair that depression can bring. My weekly RCIA class and Mass are the high spots I have now. I do take meds for it but I still suffer from cycles. When I am feeling really low I feel that even God has abandoned me. I know this isn’t the case but the disease has a mind ( forgive the pun ) of its own. I just keeping praying till it passes. I hope my faith grows strong enough to silence it alltogether. I know with God all things are possible. Hang in there, you are not alone as you can see by the posts. 🤓

Guess what. I suffer from depression to. I live in Baltimore city and sometimes walk by church and sit on the steps and pray for the people at church. Im not married most of my family is deceased and I am 35. Most times some people at church annoy me enough not to go in.

I know exactly what you are going through.

Sometimes deperssion is just a lack of energy and enthuesiasem. You should be aware that this onslought comes from the world around you and that you are a good and pious person. A big city can be a lonely place. Especially when peoples idea of fun is going to bars to socialize and than hook up. The CHurch is not just for wealthy people and sinners. The church is for poor people and pious people too. Jesus loves you and you are a good and pious person.
