Descartes Mind/Soul/Body Distinction

Hey, I’m currently writing an essay on Descartes and I’m trying to understand whether or not he considers the “Mind” and the “Soul” as the same thing.

This relates to the topic of the immortality of the soul, but I don’t necessarily think that the mind is the same as the soul. I can’t find where Descartes specifically talks about this.

Might be hard to do, as in French, soul (ame) is often used as a synonym for mind.

Mind and soul are not the same per se, although both are spiritual; your soul generates your mind, but has other missions as well, like being the life in your body. Mind is more properly a process of the soul, AIUI.

Is it possible for you to just avoid the mind/soul comparison and just focus on the mind/body. I think it would be easier to write.
