My favorite Rosary was the one I bought in Fatima, Portugal
while visiting the Fatima Shrine while on a pilgrimage.
It was made out of brown wooden beads
and a brown wooden cross
all tied on a simple string.
I prayed on it for years and years,
until one day when I got a phone call
to drive directly to the airport and get aboard the nearest plane
because my dad had just had a stroke
and may not be alive by the time my plane landed
so there was no time to even pack a suitcase.
Before the plane took off, I was seated aboard, praying that Rosary …
and it broke.
The cross came off.
So I offered my father’s life to God.
The plane landed,
and my father had survived the stroke.
I was not happy about my favorite Rosary being broken though
until someone reminded me,
“A Rosary in exchange for a life,
Sounds like a good trade to me.”

Plain wooden beads linked with string. No medallion and a plain small cross. I got it last winter during my chemo treatments. I have used it everyday since. I love it because it was blessed by Pope John Paul II. Mary has led me to a great devotion for his Holiness, who will joyfully soon be a saint. I love saying the rosary to his several recordings. Whenever I feel afraid or depressed the power and faith in his voice gives me courage. He has granted me many favours, in this short time. I am presently in remission, it is not a miracle because I had a reasonably good prognosis. The miracle is how he has helped me from sinking into a darkness of fear and keeps me strong.

What color is it? Green
What type of beads does it have? Glass beads
Is it linked with metal or strings? **Metal
** What medallion does it have? It has a miraculous medal center
Is it heavy or light? I’m not sure since the question is relative. Out of the three I have, it’s the heaviest.
Does it have a huge or small crucifix? 2 inch crucifix.
How long have you had it? About two years.
How did you obtain it? **I made it myself as a confirmation present to myself.
** Do you use it? On occasion. I’ve switched to a lighter, quieter, and tougher corded rosary with wood beads.
Is there anything special about it?
This was my second rosary ever and was my first object that I’ve got blessed by a priest. I know I t may not mean much to people, but just starting praying the rosary then making one out of medal links is quite an accomplishment in my book 👍
Anything else you migth want to add

I suggest getting a case for your rosary. If stored an used properly, it should last a lifetime.

  • What color is it? Red and white
  • What type of beads does it have? Metal? Pearls? Wood? Coloured glass? Jade? Onyx? etc. [Howlite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howlite)
  • Is it linked with metal or strings? Metal wire wrapped
  • What medallion does it have? Blessed virgin Mary? St. Fatima? St. Benedict? St. Michael? St. James the Greater
  • Is it heavy or light? Fairly heavy, since the beads are made of calcium borosilicate mineral
  • Does it have a huge or small crucifix? Neither—I’d call it medium size
  • How long have you had it? Seven months
  • How did you obtain it? Bought it online
  • Do you use it? Not as regularly as I would like. It was intended for daily use and I hope to get back to that once I fix a situation that currently prevents me from doing so (long story).
  • Is there anything special about it?** It’s the “sister” rosary to the one my priest has (his is black onyx and red howlite), and was blessed by his brother, who is also a priest.**
  • Anything else you migth want to add I carry it with me everywhere in a leather pouch. Because of its wire-wrapped structure, it is practically indestructible under normal circumstances. In other words, it survives being in my handbag all the time—no mean feat as I carry a full-to-the-bursting bag the size of the Queen Mary 2—but I couldn’t run over it with a truck without causing it severe damage…

Rosaries are meant to be used. If your expensive rosaries are well constructed, they should be fine. If they are made of quality materials they should not “wear down” and it should not be difficult to fix them in the event they do break. 🙂

God bless! I’d love to see the rosary you eventually buy

I have two favorite rosaries:

First One:
Code:
What color is it?White
What type of beads does it have? Metal? Pearls? Wood? Coloured glass? Jade? Onyx? etc.Moonstone
Is it linked with metal or strings?Silver-colored metal
What medallion does it have? Blessed virgin Mary? St. Fatima? St. Benedict? St. Michael?Blessed Virgin/Sacred Heart of Jesus
Is it heavy or light?Light
Does it have a huge or small crucifix?in keeping with the small size of the rosary
How long have you had it?Since my First Holy Communion, May 9, 1964
How did you obtain it?My Grandma had it made for me
Do you use it?Very gently
Is there anything special about it?It is the Rosary I carried when I was married, as well as my First Communion
Anything else you migth want to addI keep it on my bedpost for safekeeping.
Second One:
Code:
What color is it?Jade green
What type of beads does it have? Metal? Pearls? Wood? Coloured glass? Jade? Onyx? etc. Plastic, oblong shaped
Is it linked with metal or strings?gold colored metal
What medallion does it have? Blessed virgin Mary? St. Fatima? St. Benedict? St. Michael?Blessed Virgin/ Sacred Heart of Jesus
Is it heavy or light?Light
Does it have a huge or small crucifix?Small, gold colored
How long have you had it?Since 1986
How did you obtain it?It belonged to my Grandma, who died in 1986, and was given to me by my mother.
Do you use it?Very, very carefully.
Is there anything special about it?Over all the years of my Grandma praying with it, the medallion is worn nearly smooth, and the Crucifix is also very worn. I can feel all my Grandma's Faith, Hope, and Love for God and the Church when I use this rosary.
Anything else you migth want to add I keep this Rosary also on my bedpost, as I am so afraid it will break with age.

My first favorite rosary was given to me by my father as a graduation present from high school. He came home from a men’s retreat with small gifts that he had purchased. Mine had white beads with swirls of gold, a Medium sized Crucifix, and Blessed Mother on the middle. I had this rosary and used it for many years and repaired it a few times but somewhere along the line, I either lost or replaced it.

At the moment, I have three favorites. The first is one that I made a few years ago. I purchased the beads from a hobby store and used parts from old rosaries for the crucifix and center medal. I used chain between the decades. The beads are a copper or bronze looking metal over an aqua colored glass. I like the way the smooth beads run through my fingers. I use this rosary during my hour of adoration, at rosary prayer vigils for the deceased for formal and informal ocassions. My second favorite is a ring rosary that I use when walking on while I’m exercising on the elliptical, etc. My third favorite is a chord rosary that a young friend made. Chord rosaries are easy to carry in your pocket and don’t break as easily as chain rosaries. I used to carry this in my pocket all of the time-every day until I got the ring rosary.
The bottom line is that the rosary is meant to be used. The real value is in using it to pray.

I use a very simple rosary; the wooden beads are a natural light brown, and so is the plain wooden cross (without a corpus). There’s no medallion. I like that it’s rather understated.

I designed mine and had it made by The Rosary Shop, it’s gold with carnelian Ave Maria beads and tigerseye Pater Noster beads with caps, a Mary cathedral center and cutout crucifix.

I wouldn’t mind getting one from Queen of Peace, they have some gorgeous ones too.

So, tell me about your favourite rosary

My favorite/new one since returning Home in February is one I searched and searched for. I finally found one that has ‘marbled’ round beads (painted/dipped), Mary medallion, metal, medium-to-heavy, small crucifix (but in proportion to the Rosary). I found it in a local Catholic store.

I also have a clear one I use that I think I received for Confirmation; it’s metal as well, but lighter. Clear beads, oval shape. My other true favorite was my mother in law’s; it’s green (my birthstone is green), and the Hail Mary beads are almost like hearts. I imagine Mom praying this with me and our Blessed Mother.

Why not wear down your favorite ones? It would make me so happy to hand down to my children and grandchildren a well-worn rosary. My own favorite cost me $30 though, and the others were less expensive, but just as loved.

Rosewood beads
String
Our Lady of Guadalupe, with the Sacred Heart on the opposite side
It is light
Small crucifix in brass on the end
I’ve used it for about 4 years
I bought it from the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at a Catholic Men’s Conference
I use it, but I admit that lately I’ve been having trouble to pray it daily
The rosary was blessed by Pope Francis at the most recent World Youth Day

If you’re looking for something that’s equally handsome and useful, I recommend Queen of Peace Rosaries. I’ve never even heard of one breaking, because the wire that’s used to hold them is wrapped several times for each link.

I felt like God was telling me to buy that specific Rosary, solely because the centerpiece is the Sacred Heart. I think God made the right decision. The Sacred Heart has helped me a lot. 👍

It is my first Rosary, and it will always be my favorite.
