this is not unheard of. more common is the one experiance i read of the person who couldn’t speak until they repeated the name of jesus. my best guess is that you are being led into a deeper relationship with christ. having had several of these kinds of experiances, i can tell you that it is terrifying momentarily, but if you react in prayer and recieve the sacraments, these kinds of experiances only serve to solidify your faith. my best guess is that this was allowed by christ to bring you an awareness of what’s out there. my advice is to not dwell on it or wonder if it will happen again, but rather focus on your spiritual development. i recommend the imitation of christ, my daily bread, and the readinf of the sermon on the mount. don’t tell too many people about this- they’ll only think you’re crazy. be careful of what priest you tell also (again, they may think you’re crazy). the best thing to do is to ask sopmeone that you know has had similair experiances about a good spiritual director close by. that way you don’t get the reputation as the “parish nut” among the clergy. the right spiritual director is key. it also seems that you “fumbled” a little when you said, “that’s it”. this indicates (and please understand that i have no way of knowing for sure as i do not know you, but i am trying to give honest advice) that you may have a bit of egocentricism that allowed for the second go around. i suggest getting involved in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, or some other service to the parish or community where you can serve the people. this will help you to learn to see christ through others, and if you pay attention, you will learn much through the suffering of others, and even help to alieviate it. this aspect of spirituality is more important than demonic disturbances. do not give them much attention, or they may consume your entire spiritality. I hope this helps.

Wiccans are not Wiccans so they can rebel against Christ. In fact, some even respect Christ. They aren’t going around and saying “Christ is evil, come to us”.
Well, as for being ‘anti-God’, this makes no sense. They have one Divine Being, split into two aspects(God/Goddess). Yeah, so how is this anti-God? Some even view that the Chrisitan God and theirs are the same, only different aspets are portrayed.

Coreopisis and Shoshana are absolutely correct about generational curses. It is not commonly known about or discussed. It is sometimes considered when people are going through what can only be decribed as psychic or demonic attacks.
Would just like to add to this that it is not always generational curses but sometimes curses closer to home. Those who are jealous, envious or filled with hatred for you can be cursing you intentionally or without even realizing it. This is the practice called witchcraft though it may not be called by that name. That is nevertheless what it is. Sometimes you have to completely break all ties with these people if you know who they are.
This is something to note especially when something is happening to more than one person. There is an especial danger the closer the blood relationship. When one is experiencing strange things be sure to take a closer look and see if you haven’t angered someone. You must pray for protection from them and pray for them.
Prayer and the sacraments are vital as is the importance of staying under the protection of the church and staying in a state of grace. Byers, Thank you, you have described perfectly what I could not. This is exactly what I learned through the Priest I was working with.
My son and I were both attacked physically by something unseen. Our pets (2 Ferrets and 2 Birds were also subject to them also and would hiss and attack things we couldn’t see. (They were trying to protect us it was really cute God bless their little hearts.) Later I ended up seeing “it” and it was a black shadow person, tall and very lean with long finger nails almost clawlike. It looked like a man in a tight black catsuit, except it wasn’t black, it was the absense of light if that makes any sense. My mom then later told me that she had seen the same thing when she was a child and it had choaked her. It was then that we realized it could be a generational curse. We begun praying and the attacks intensified and other people visiting us began seeing the shadow or a man in jeans and a shirt walk across my living room and through the wall. I would get punched, my hair pulled, kicked, laughed at, lungs crushed and all by a being I couldn’t see or touch or smell. My son got his CD tower thrown accross his room one night and then his cd’s moved accross the floor on their own but he was never directly assaulted as I was. I don’t know why. I prayed to St. Michael, I prayed to God, I prayed to Jesus, I confessed my sins, I went to church, recieved the sacrements and I prayed. I at one point commanded it to leave in the name of Jesus. Nothing worked until one night I was being punched over and over again and I could do nothing. I laid down on my bed in a ball and said in my head to Jesus “I am nothing without you, if you wish me to die now I accept because it is your will. Obviously I can do nothing against these demons.” That very moment I admitted complete and utter weakness and defeat the punches stopped instantaneously.
After more prayer the overall activity receeded However all was not gone and we still had little problems here and there. I began at this point, per the direction of the Priest, to document what was going on in my life at the time of the attacks and I noticed a coorelation to visits from a friend of mine. Whenever she would visit we would endure attacks for 2-3 days.
I ended up just asking questions of my friend to figure out why this was happening and it turned out that she had decided that she refused to believe in a God who would call being gay or having sex outside of marriage a sin. She then said “what kind of cruel God would create sexual beings and then make it a sin for us to be sexual.” I talked to her about it and then she said that she flat out refused to believe no matter what and that she was thinking about practicing Wicca. I told her I would pray for her and she said " I don’t care! Do what you want to do but I don’t believe in prayer." I decided at this point to eliminate her out of my life, not in a mean way, I’ve just been busy. I am not trying to be mean to her I just don’t like being attacked by demons. Anyway now the attacks are virtually gone. I still pray for her though.
All of this in the end has brought both my son and I very close to God. We live in what I believe to be a healthy fear of falling out of a state of grace. We now know first hand how real the battle is. It is so fortunate that my 13 year old son got to witness such things as he has no question about his faith or belief in God or the evil ones for that matter.
My point at the end of all this rambling is that generational curses and the other curses are real. Why and how? I have no idea and it doesn’t matter. Even if you still don’t believe pray about it. Pray that you don’t ever fall under a curse generational or otherwise.
I only share my experiance with all of you so that you can maybe learn from it. What we went through was terrifying and horrible. And it makes my stomach feel ill to read some of the things I have read on this thread.
As a result of our experiance we fear falling out of a state of grace, we fear offending God, we fear loosing his protection.
I will pray for all of you that you need not experiance what we went through to be able to see the truth and absolute danger we are all facing. I pray that God blesses you all with clarity of mind in such things.

Couldn’t the sacraments, esp. the Eucharist break a generational curse on the spot or even sacramentals be used, as both are used in exorcisms against the devil himself? I really like the Benedictine crucfix, rosary and jubilee medal and use them nonstop as I never take off my crucifx other then to clean it. We also have the consecrations to Jesus and to the Blessed Mother for protection, something else I’ve done to relieve attacks in spiritual warfare. The point is, if the Lord allows something spiritually oppressive to happen, it is usually to draw you closer to Himself and the protection of the Church through the humility of affliction. No different then a cold or genetic heart defect in the case of generational curse’s. I use genetic heart defect as an example because my wife and one of my son’s (10) has one and he takes a beta blocker as well as avoids strenuous exercise. We take precautions physically, spiritually and rely on the Lord for their well being in unforseen things and that includes spiritual attacks. I read these events that people have gone through spiritually as though its a medical journel. A bad cold here, even a case of spiritual cancer there. But we have spiritual medications and the great healer Himself in the Eucharist. Just wash your hands more in the sacraments and sacramentals of the Church to stay healthy.

On the subject of reading material opening a door…one night about ten years ago I was reading a vampire novel. I had been a “born again” for years and was at that time becoming more involved in the church I grew up in (United Methodist). When I went to sleep I dreamed that I was being attacked by demons and vampires but I called on Jesus to save me. They let me up and I noticed a small knot of people over to one side praying for me. I believe that those people were prayer warriors that God enlisted for me in the middle of the night. To this day I respond when I feel that call, even if it wakes me from sleep.

We took the eucharist, we went to mass, we had holy water and holy salt blessed with special blessings which we sprinkled throughout our house and even drank once as per the Priests suggestion and used on our food. Why did the attacks continue? Why? WHY? I’ve …We’ve asked ourselves and God this question to many times to count.
I suppose it is possible that the eucharist could break curses and stuff on the spot but it doesn’t always work. If it did why would we need exorcisms and why do exorcisms sometimes take years? Why would we need holy water and holy salt and holy oil? Why would we need Mass? Why would we need prayer? Why?
Maybe people are demonized because it isGod’s will?
Maybe this person is being punished for a sin and are doing their penance now?
Maybe it is a generational curse?
Maybe a relative or friend or neighbor is cursing them or practicing ouigi boards and it is filtering to them? Remember Ouigi boards may not do anything to you, but the curse could rain on your children or your children’s children.
Maybe this person has doubts about Christ?
Maybe this person is being demonized or attacked for other reasons we don’t understand that never got mentioned in the bible?
Maybe God hasn’t revealed all to us yet?
Maybe we need to be more careful.
There is a passage in the bible that talks about how someone tried to cast out a demon in Jesus’s name and it didn’t work and Jesus said that it could only be cast out by fasting. Why?
It is not our place to know why. But all these questions should humble ALL of us on this thread.
Who are we to know the reasons for these things to happen? Who are we to think that we know how to handle these things? Who are we to pass judgement on others for their opinions or experiance?
The truth is we all need to say prayers to ask for forgiveness as we are all in this boat together. We are all pawns in the battle for our souls. We need to admit that we don’t know everything and be very careful. We need to be humble.
No matter what path you take, I pray that it leads you to God.

The Eucharist and all of the sacramentals did not speed up the exorcism of a lady we prayed over for 5 years. We were a team of two priests, and three ladies as the victim was a lady. I have seen much and heard much and believe it or not, in the end it was quite banal as the evil one’s’s word is dead as opposed to God’s living word.
I have been attacked in so many different ways…would not want to dwell on it. As Coreopisis has said…we must be cautious in entangling ourselves in any of this stuff. We must always depend on the Providence of God and in humility, and only because we are as nothing, to keep our eyes focused on the One who was nailed to the life-saving cross as the One who has all power against such a malicious bing, the devil.

Sorry I originally came late into this thread. I thank you for your kind words Coreopisis and I must say you couldn’t have explained it better in your last post where you showed all that you did in this battle. Not only did you do all humanly and spiritually possible, but also importantly you took it to the Church, a priest.
People who have not been involved in this sort of thing often just do not understand. It seems we are on a “need to know” basis sometimes in the workings of God and there are no pat answers.

Tim, indeed the gifts and protections of the Lord and His Church are most important, but those involved in this kind of spiritual warfare often need help and information that is not readily available. However the best way to avoid this kind of thing, in general, is to stay close to God and His Church and stay in a state of grace.
Even that doesn’t always guarantee one is protected from everything!. For example in Begone Satan, the story about the outright possession in Earling, Iowa in the 20’s, the pious young woman was cursed by her wicked father, an example for sure, of a generational curse.
And nowadays in this country those dabbling in witchcraft, magic, and the black arts is increasing. You never know when someone will be targeting you. So it is a good idea to learn from others and understand a little about spiritual warfare.

But I too have heard of people who have run into problems with things like investigating or just reading about something like UFO actitivity. It seems God showed you others were praying for you. Many have told me and I have experienced myself a call to wake up in the middle of the night many times, often around 3AM to pray for others. Sometimes I am told who…but others times not. I agree with you to always respond to these calls for help.
I just wanted to add one more thing and that is the importance of getting rid of any and all materials, even books, associated with the occult in any way and also in ridding your home of material objects that might be placed there, by those who may be trying to curse you, or even objects associated with them in some way such as old letters etc.
There is even evidence that those trying to curse or harm you in any way can use the telephone or even emails that seem innocent can have attachments in the form of curses. That is why it is best to break off all contact with those involved with evil. You can pray for them…safely from a distance.
And so though we are certainly not to be looking for the devil under every corner and should concentrate on the love of God and leading a good life foremost, but people do need to be made aware of this spiritual battle and some particular things that can be harmful or helpful. I feel it is especially helpful to know what others have experienced as that can be a great help and comfort. Most importantly - stay humble and trust in God.
