Just my opinion, John, but all shoshana did was post a link to the prayer. I don’t see that as actively promoting an unapproved devotion.

Byers, you are right in assuming that my motivation was the prayer. The book also is a good read. But I did not go any further than that as Mr John would presume. The moderator is very much aware of who I am and would not even think that I would do this willingly. God bless you.🙂

May God’s pace, love and mercy be with you all!

Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican exorcist who wrote the book An Exorcist Tells His Story, wrote how to properly discard cursed or evil things. Such an awesome book by the way. He drew from a text published in the magazine regarding WICCA. That it is an organization that practices satanism and consecrates themselves to the person of satan.

We cannot serve two masters. We are just deceiving ourselves by thinking we can be close to God and yet still belong to an organization such as this that consecrates people to satan. This priest battles with satan every day to free the souls from the evil one. He casts them all out: satan, demons, evil spirits in the name of Jesus! This powerful name which causes Hell to tremble when we invoke it!

I remember when I went to a bookstore that was closing, I saw this book on the table. It was about witchcraft and satanism. Oh, I couldn’t bear the thought that another person might buy the book and destroy their soul. So, I bought it to be burned but before I touched the book I prayed to St. Michael, Our Blessed Mother, Our Good Lord, the saints to help protect me since I didn’t have any holy water with me. I was thankful that I was wearing a blessed crucifix medal of St. Benedict, so I held on to it while praying. When I finally touched that book, I suddenly felt so sick to my stomach, was very nauseated, very cold, very weak and very lightheaded which went away afterwards. The cashier was probably wondering why someone who wears a crucifix would want to buy a witchcraft/satanic book. He didn’t ask me but I told him my reason anyway.

When I got home, I blessed the book with holy water including the whole house (which was blessed by the priest years ago). I left it in the garage for I didn’t want anything evil inside the house. I didn’t want to leave it outside because somebody might pick it up. A week or so passed by, it was still in the garage for I haven’t had the time to burn it but I still would bless it often with holy water. So, one day a friend of mine told me that he just found a snake hiding on the outside part of the basement wall of the house. That was the first and only time that has happened in my entire life. I knew then that I had to finish the job. I prayed first then blessed my friend and myself especially my hands with holy water. I then blessed the book and started burning it page by page until it was all ashes. I was praying the whole time I was doing it and avoided looking at the pages. Once it was all ashes, I blessed it again with holy water. At a later time, I and my friend drove about 35 minutes to a river. I blessed myself and my friend again before handling the ashes. Blessed the ashes again and threw it all away in the river. We also released in the same area the very weakened snake.

God, who is the creator of all things visible and invisible, has given us the TEN Commandments. So, whether we like it or not, ALL are bound to follow it. It’s like gravity, whether we like it or not, whether we see it or not, whether we feel it or not, it exists. People can deny it, hate it, mock it, laugh about it or say they do not belong to science class/group or have never heard of it, or have never studied it. Well guess what, if they try to jump of the cliff, they will surely feel its effects. Only it’s too late to be sorry about it or believe its importance and its existence. And how they wished that they should have listened to people who warned them or knew what they were talking about. And here we are only talking about gravity. How much more the effects of not following the TEN Commandments of God? Of not following the teachings of Our Good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Of not serving God but
serving satan instead. Surely the effects would be more grave beyond comparison for the price is eternal damnation in Hell.

May God bless, keep, protect, help and enlighten us all with the powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, with St. Michael the Archangel, the Church Triumphant, Militant and Suffering.

Blessed be Jesus and Mary!

Let’s just say that the Claretian Missionaries are known for not being mainstream:

Moderator: I think this falls within the definition of promoting unapproved devotions.
JohnPaulTwoToo,
Like Byers said Shoshana was only referencing the prayer. I also want to tell you that when I went through my ordeal I was given this very same prayer by my Priest and he said it with us.

I shared this prayer with my Grandmother who is part of a very large prayer group at our local Catholic church. It turns out her and her group have been using this very same prayer for a long time and since the priests of the parish join this group for prayer sometimes I would assume they know it. Apparently it is well known prayer in the Catholic prayer group circle.

This is a very powerful prayer and I storngly suggest you don’t discount it because you question the validity of these missionaries.

I’m sorry if I hit a nerve with you or if you took my post as directed at you. That was not my intention. My intention was to shift attention away from the evil subject of this thread to the gifts and protections the Lord and His Church provides. Tim
Tim, Don’t worry you didn’t hit a nerve.

You asked a question and I could’ve just answered it and said “no that doesn’t always work.” The problem is when I just answer questions like this, especially on this thread, people will disagree and essentially not listen and I will be discounted.

The only way I can really get my point accross is to let you know that I tell you ‘no-that doesn’t always work’ from experiance. I am not guessing. I’ve actually dealt with this stuff and struggled and at times wanted to kill myself to escape it. Yes the spiritual attacks were this bad at times and yes they did come in mental attacks as well.

We’ve had people on this thread say that they dabble in things but it’s ok because they “protect” themselves and then because nothing happens to them they assume that protection is working. The problem with spiritual attacks is that they are not limited to time like our human bodies are. Sometimes it is harmless to you, but your children or your grandchildren will suffer for your ignorance because the demons may decide to attack later. This may have been what happened to me, we don’t know.

Anyway I could go on forever. I wrote all of that to back up the point I was trying to make. We are not all knowing and we can not assume that the Eucharist will take care of it. There is more to it than that and I don’t understand it all. None of us do.

Hi:

I have not had a similar experience, but if I did, I would turn on EWTN (I have a TV in the bedroom) and start praying. I would also address any evil spirit or ghost I felt was approaching me with the following command:

“In the name of Jesus Christ, I command you to leave this place and return to where you belong. May the Virgin Mother assist me in this request. Amen.”

Never under any circumstance should you to address an evil spirit. You would be better off praying to St. Michael or simply praying the “Our Father” outloud. (At the end of the “Our Father” it says ‘deliver us from evil.’) I have noted a few times where at this statement they leave.

I believe Shoshana posted a link to the rules via the Catholic church. We are never to address evil spirits, not even in the name of Jesus Christ.

But Jesus said that we shall be empowered to trample on demons. There once came a homeless man into our church (Our Lady of Pompei) who was disturbing the priest all during mass. At the end of mass, he started to approach the altar, and I was worried that he was going to head for the sacristry and bother the priest some more. I walked up to the fellow and said “If you don’t leave here, I’ll call the cops.” He started walking backward slowly, and I started slowly walking toward him. As he was backing away, he was like a man in a trance (obviously mentally disturbed), and from his throat I heard a strange mumbling of jumbled voices–the type of sound you hear on movies like the Exocist coming from the possessed child.

Anyway, I walked him right out. No one was more astonished than me, who is quite meek most of the time.

I will not address a demon unless he speaks to me first. But if he does–come into my house, disturb my sleep or prayer, I will not hesitate to tell him:

“In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask you to leave this place and go to where you belong. May the Virgin Mother assist me in this prayer.” I also have a jumbo-size rosary in the drawer near the bed, so that ought to do it.

“I ain’t 'fraid of no ghosts.”

You’re right Jesus did say that. I don’t know why, I just know the Church tells us not to. I think Shoshana probably knows more about the why’s because she participated in that exorcism for 5 years.

I could be wrong but I think it has something to do with the protection of the Church. Priests are not allowed to do an exorcism without the approval of the Church and through that approval they gain the protection of God’s church. Without you asking the church for permission to cast it out you are wihtout that protection and are in danger. In order to protect us the church forbids such things.

I am completely open for correction here if anyone knows why the church doesn’t want us to cast out demons even in Jesus’s name. I’ve just written it as I understand it.

Coreopisis I would not address a demon unless it “addressed” me first (so far, hasn’t happened). In other words, I avoid the occult like the plague. Nor have I ever participated in an exorcism–nor would I unless asked by the Church and trained, etc. ( I no particular desire to serve in this way). When I “walked” the homeless fellow out of the church, I was not exorcising him. I just wanted him to leave, because he really was disturbing us all through mass, making the priest and all of us nervous, and he seemed to be heading for the altar and the sacristy after mass.

But I will say this–the way he left, walking slowly backward, facing me, whilst I slowly walked toward him (softly saying “keep going, keep going”) amidst this strange jumble of voices coming from the back of his throat did really make me feel the man was spiritually oppressed (if not possessed) as well as being mentally ill.

There are other homeless-men-in-the-church stories I can tell you all, but I’ll save it for another day.

Well, if I had that happening, I’d try to hand the fellow a rosary or a prayerbook. I walked up to a homeless guy last week (I live in the heart of Greenwich Village in NYC, so we have homeless on the street) and handed him a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (a beautiful portrait I’d received in the mail from the Sacred Heart Priests) and told him to look on the back and read the 12 promises there for those who display a portrait of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the home. Of course, this fellow was homeless, but he could put it on his bunk or under his pillow in the shelter at night. He was genuinely touched, especially when I handed him $.50 as well.

teresanne…you are very brave…and lucky. The power we have over evil spirits spoken of in scripture is through the Church. That is why even priests cannot perform exorcisms without the permission of the bishops (successors of the apostles). You can even read in scripture where the Archangel did not dispute with the devil about the body of Moses, but turned it over to God.

We are taught by the Church never to give any imprecatory command to evil spirits for good reason. Sometimes i cringe when i hear people talk in a cocky manner about how they handle these things because they have no idea what they are dealing with.

I don’t mean that you were being cocky, but many are. We don’t tell the evil spirits or the devil what to do, only God can do that and through the power of authority he gave to His Church.

In the early days of the charismatic movement of the Church many ran into big problems doing this kind of thing and there were demonic manifestations so much so that the vatican had to issue warnings to them about doing this in their deliverances.

Call upon the holy name of Jesus or say the Our Father, but never address them in any fashion.

Here’s what Fr. Gabriel Amorth says about lay exorcism:
…the stole of the priest is a tremendous protection. Without it, there can be danger. But that doesn’t exclude the laity from active spiritual deliverance, according to Father Amorth, the world’s most famous exorcist.
“A lay person who prays for deliverance from demons offers a private prayer, calling upon the common priesthood of the faithful and the power granted by Christ to all believers,” says Father Amorth. "The priest who prays for the same purpose also recites a private prayer. Everything being equal, it is more efficacious than the first, because he calls upon his ministerial priesthood and his mandate to bless. When an exorcist administers an exorcism, the efficacy is greater still, because he is practicing a sacramental, which is a public prayer, invoking the intercessory power of the entire Church.
“However,” adds Amorth, “let us be clear on this: The Lord takes faith into account. Therefore, a simple prayer of a lay person, even though it is private, could be more efficacious than the prayer of anyone else.”
Father Amorth cites the example of Saint Catherine of Siena: When an exorcist could not liberate a demoniac, he would send the afflicted person to her. “Then the saint would pray and obtain liberation,” writes Amorth. “Her prayer was not an exorcism; she was neither an exorcist nor a priest. But she was a saint!”
As Father Amorth notes, it all comes down to faith: Christ Himself admonished His followers to cast out spirits, but He also pointed to a lack of faith as the reason they weren’t always able to succeed. It is faith that is our shield. It is our faith that unlocks the power of God – which readily overcomes all evil.
quoted from: Famous Exorcist Says Laymen Can Also Cast Out Evil Presences And Influences

The problems among the Charismatics can be understood in light of their non-orthodox practices of “laying on of hands” and non-sacramental “annointings”. Some Charismatics have even been supposedly “annointed” by Protestant Pentecostals. It’s easy to imagine the problems that would result: Toronto Blessing (a little treatise).

Hi byers: I did not address the spirit (that I mid-conversation realized was oppressing the homeless crazy man in the church). I addressed the man himiself, saying simply “If you don’t get out of here, I’ll call the cops.” One is not to go looking for trouble or put God to the test. However, there are occasions when one must speak to protect ourselves or others. (I.e., you’ll know.) I was trying to protect the priest and church property that day.

I have also “struck out.” Once, I spent 4 hours (my entire morning) trying to talk a homeless begging drunk I’d become familiar with into going into an emergency room (and detox) to get de-loused. The guy was CRAWLING with head lice. Well, I tried everything (even bought him “one last beer” as an inducement), and struck out, completely. I’m still tracking him (i.e., I see him on the street occasionally) and pray for him (his name is Tom Schultz), but I won’t try to get him into detox again anytime soon, because he ended up taking swings at me. (I ducked.)

Tomorrow, I’ll tell you all another “crazy man in the church” story. This posting is getting too long. Sincerely, Teresa

Hi Teresa,
I don’t see or think that you’ve talked to any such persons and I am glad for that. I think we are just warning you that if you are ever addressed by them to not respond just pray. That’s all.

It is nice of you to try to help that man. Yuck, be careful lice can jump like 6 feet.

Where do you live that you have so many homeless people? We seem to have some, but nothing like what you are talking about.

Hi Coreopisis:

I live in the heart of Greenwich Village, New York City. We do have quite a few homeless (mainly men). I’d say 1/3 are addicts and/or alcoholics, 1/3 are mentally ill, and 1/3 are other. There is some overlap between the mentally ill and addict&alcoholic populations. When the state governments closed the mental institutions in the seventies, a lot of the patients would up either homeless or in jail.

Also, NYC is a homeless magnet, because the services and support for the homeless are unparalleled here. When I say “homeless”, I mean living in homeless shelters. They are a leg up from those who live on the street, of which there are almost none.

There are neighborhood regulars because there are homeless shelters in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, and the shelters require the residents to go out during the day (otherwise, the homeless would start sleeping all day and brawling, etc. all night).

Any NY City residents on this thread? Sincerely, Teresa
