I’m just recently returning to Catholic Church - I was baptized but didn’t go through catechism and wasn’t confirmed (d’oh!) - oh well it’s never too late to start - I’ve been returning to Church for about 5-6 months and have been doing a lot of reading.

However, I’m a little concerned - around age 20 or so, when I first met my wife, we went to Church with her family around Christmas (and only around Christmas). Although technically I considered myself Catholic (kind of … not really), I didn’t really know anything. My real problem is that I felt like I was forced to go to Church and resented the whole thing. In retrospect I understand that this was crazy, but it’s too late to change things now.

My concern is that I can remember one time that I received the host, and I didn’t consume it right away. To be honest I can’t recall if I ever consumed it or simply pocketed it. I certainly didn’t do anything negative to the host, but if I were to bet, I don’t think that I consumed it. 😦

I only recall this happening one time, and I attended church and consumed the host every other year.

I didn’t appreciate the importance of the host nor did I understand how stupid it was to not consume it. I am truly sorry and I’d never do that now.

I didn’t even remember this whole episode until I was reading my “Catholicism for Dummies” book.

What do I do?

Remember that Jesus cannot be injured in the slightest way by anything we do. We can only injure ourselves. Clearly you did not intend to offend God or make some kind of rebellious statement by your actions. It is good that you understand now that the Eucharist is indeed God and is to be treated as such. Just repeat what you have said here at your next confession. All will be forgiven, if it hasn’t already been so.

I agree with this. Don’t be afraid to talk to a priest about it - either in confession or outside of it.

God bless,
Bryan

Speak to a Priest. I cannot say what you done wasn’t serious, it was serious. But, you weren’t educated about the truth of the Eucharist being the body and blood, soul, and divinity of Our Lord. So you can’t be held accountable!

You should mention it to a Priest, and see what he says. If you can’t, there is Fr Vincent Serpa on these forums who is an excellent apologist, always ready to help you! Also, there are a few other Priests on here, so look around!

Thank you all for the replies. I really appreciate it.

I went to confession for the first time since being just a child a few weeks ago. I wish that I had remembered it then and I would have brought it up. I’ll be sure to bring it up next time.

Thank you all. I was pretty scared after reading about mortal sin and excommunication.

Mortal sin can only be committed when
I. You give full consent of the will
II. It’s of grievous matter
III. You’ve reflected and though of it beforehand

You never mortally sinned, because you were not informed, and couldn’t have given full consent in that way. Also, you could not have been excommunicated either. Read here.

God Bless :signofcross::byzsoc:

Oh, and welcome home!

God is a loving father. Never forget that.

Jesus rose from the dead. There is nothing to be afraid of.

Don’t ever forget that.
