Just a curious open question to the group at large. The desert Fathers and mother’s were groups of monks and hermits who lived in the deserts in the early days of Christianity. Since they were alone most of the time, did they ever receive the Eucharist? Most of them were not ordained priests even if most of them became saints later. Does this mean that that never received Eucharist, since only a ordained priest can perform the rite?

There is a tradition that St Mary Magdalene lived as a hermit in a cave and that she received communion from an angel. I am sure God provided for the hermit saints. There is always spiritual communion.
