a secret tunnel and a secret room 👍

I’ve always wanted one of each since I was a girl reading Nancy Drew.

I think I’d have one for the kids. And, one the kids don’t know about. hee hee.

we have two twin victorian homes in town that supposedly had a tunnel between them, but nobody can find it now
 
I’d keep my house, but completely re-do it on the inside so that each of my children had their own bedroom, nice sized, and combine the kitchen and dining room into one big room with more counter and cabinet space, a bigger refrigerator, a freezer, and an Aga cooker. Re-design the addition to include a work area, then turn the attic (which is now my studio) into a rumpus room.
Then I would buy the house next door, tear it down and put in a huge garden/green space with pergola and grape vines, outdoor fireplace and little fish pond, and comfy seating.
The Aga cooker is the thing I most want.
 
I want a log cabin…a REAL log cabin. In the mountains, by a lake with a pier and 2 adirondak chairs. The cabin itself would be a great room on the first floor, with a large kitchen area. A separate room off the great room for ME, with floor to ceiling built in bookshelves. A loft bedroom with a stained glass window above the bed, and plenty of windows other wise too. The bathroom has to have a ceramic shower with multiple “shower towers”, and a separate jacuzzi. I want the front door to have stained glass in it. There has to be a wrap around porch with rocking chairs and/or swings. There MUST be a silver Toyota 4Runner with dark grey leather HEATED seats in it in the driveway, with the license plate “4PLAY” .Out back MUST be a large garden area. And on the pier next to the chairs MUST be a gazebo with a hot tub. I want wireless internet acess, and a PO box so my kids can’t find me.

there was an old house in my home town that had a castleated tower and a large double door, and was rumored to have a secret tunnel and a secret room. We always begged our parents to buy it. When I got older and met the family who lived there, I was crushed to find out the “tower” was just your basic attic, no tunnel, no secret room, no mystery. boo.

I know that in Canada, you wouldn’t be allowed to pick 4PLAY as a license plate, because it could be understood as “foreplay”, instead of “for play” which is I trust what you meant.
 
I once actually found my dream home online. It was a home built in the early 1800s I believe. It was in Pennsylvania – on the edge of the Gettysburg Battlefield. The pictures of it were gorgeous. However, it was $3 million so that kind of put a crimp in my purchase plans 😃

just remembered, in the thousand islands in new york, they have this beautiful, terribly run-down manison on its own island for (only) 500K. it’ll probably take 5M to bring it back to life tho 😦
 
DH and I completely gutted and renovated his childhood home, a 100 year old American foursquare farmhouse, in 2006.

What a project! But, I was able to incorporate most all the little things that I really wanted in a house-- I had to work within the existing footprint of the house, so it’s not *everything *I would have done if building from scratch.

But, I have to say I am quite pleased with the results we achieved. This is the hosue the internet built. I got so much stuff online for this house very inexpensively. It allowed me to add so many extras.

I went all out in the kitchen, and I LOVE it. I have all the gadgets. My favorite thing in the kitchen is my Advantium speedcook oven. I use it constantly.

In my bathroom, I love my large, walk-in shower with my raindome showerhead. Oh, and we got tall toilets-- we are tall people-- and these are a great improvement over standard toilets! Oh, and we love the towel warmers we got for the bathrooms. In snow-country this has been awesome. Not only can you dry towels, but DH uses it to dry out his gloves and such when coming in from the working outside.

We turned one bedroom upstairs into our bathroom, closet, and an upstairs laundry for the master. Originally there were no bathrooms upstairs.

If I could change anything about this house it would be to add more closet space. Working in the foursquare footprint didn’t give any extra room to expand closet space.
 
My dream home is for sale, too. I wish I had a spare 5 million to buy it! Then another several million to transplant the house and duplicate the gardens in another state so I wouldn’t have to live in California. 😛

I want my own dear 4-square house—😉 except…I think instead of being 25 X 30 feet, it should be 50 X 60 feet…
So, I would have:thumbsup: 6000 square feet instead of:o 1500.
The whole second floor would be a library…(which I would fill to the brim & overflowing, within the year, and need to add another wing on the house…).
And, at last, I would have a 😃 kitchen kitchen…instead of a:p 9X9 foot cubby that I call a kitchen…
 
You know, I just don’t want a big huge house. I know plenty of people with these 4,000 tract houses with every possible feature…granite countertops and travertine floors. It just doesn’t feel like home to me. I’m perfectly happy with my 1800 sq ft and would be happy with considerably less. I really do think so called dream homes are over-rated. Funny thing is that the kids who live in those houses all want to come and hang out at my house.
 
Location…someplace where it does not get too hot in the summer.
I can take the cold, as long as I am not buried in snow all winter.

Lots of open woodlands around…small town, rural area where I can hear birds and insects, and where I can see the stars at night.

Large picture window facing a protected area outside the house where bird feeders are set up. Cameras set up inside to photograph birds.

Mini-observatory with a motorized telescope/camera for tracking & photographing moving objects in the sky (ALL objects in the sky move).

All rooms wired for sounds…music and intercoms.
All the latest electronic gadgets controlled by computer.
Live video cameras around the outside of the house…yes I am paranoid.

Home theatre.

A real stone fireplace where you can build a real fire.

Large basement turned into a play room for kids OR adults…
Wet bar, pool table, large screen TV, storage for books, board games, video games.
Lots of comfortable seating scattered around, such as bean bag chairs, large pillows, padded benches.

Full-size library overloaded with books of all kinds.

My own office, with my OWN computer.

Full-size recording studio, with 24-track tape.
Drum set, guitars, piano, electric keyboards, sound-proof booth for recording vocals. Also with a coffee-maker, microwave, and mini-fridge, plus an indoor-outhouse for those marathon recording sessions.

Large video-editing studio packed with equipment for editing video,
audio, and still photography. The latest and greatest video and digital camera cameras.
 
Slightly off the track here, but related to my post above…

Can you just IMAGINE what houses could be like in heaven?
Actually, no you can’t, since eye has not seen, and ear has not heard…but you get my point.

You can try to dream up the most spectacular, beautiful, convenient house in your mind, but no matter what you come up with, it will be nothing compared to what God can devise.

I know in heaven, there would be no need for kitchens, bathrooms, or bedrooms…but my guess is, if WANT to sleep or eat, you can.

Of course, in heaven, there is probably no need for houses at all…but you get my point…no matter how great we think life can be on earth, wait till we see what God has in store for us!

— a lot of at least 3 acres
— an ice skating rink in the backyard that would be a go cart track in the spring/summer
— a nice inground pool at the back of the property so that it is far enough from the house that the kids wouldn’t be playing near it. with a nice black wrought iron fence around it w/ a locked gate
---- a nice patio, w/ an awesome grill and a fire pit. an electric awning thing that you push a button to operate
— out in the front yard a grotto w/ a Blessed Mother statue and a Sacred Heart statue (situated in another nice grotto)
— 3 car garage
---- The biggest kitchen and breakfast room imaginable
— a tunnel slide on the main floor that would end in the basement toyroom
---- a very large dining room for nice Sunday dinners and holiday parties/family get togethers
— towel warmers in the bathrooms
— 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms (a master bedroom, a nursery, a boys room, a girls room, and a guest bedroom)

— fireplace in family room, master bedroom, and in the basement rec. room
— basement will have a large toyroom and a large rec room to hold our air hockey table, ping pong table, basketball hoop thing, bounce house, dart board, and DH’s future poker table
— the master bath would have a separate tub and shower, tub would be a whirlpool/jacuzzi type
— water softener and whole house purifier

I wouldn’t go big, but I would go more efficient. I have a fair-sized kitchen, but it’s poorly planned and counter space is limited. I would have a ranch style home with a “great room”, with a fireplace and lots of windows. I would have 2 full baths (don’t want a jacuzzi) , but would like a big old-fashioned claw tub. My kitchen would have built-ins with a double oven, an island with a sink and disposal, a large eating area, a grill, and lots of counter space. A separate laundry room with a soaking sink, built in ironing board, a place for my sewing machine, and a lot of cupboards; 3 bedrooms, the master bedroom having one of the baths, and little “nooks” all over the place. Full basement, and of course, somebody to clean the place! Also, a screened in porch and a deck.

Actually, it would be smaller than I have now, just planned differently. I do not need or want a big house, just a more efficient one, with no stairs to climb (except for the basement}.

you described with a few differences (no pool, but yes a hockey rink) the house we sold in Ohio when our kids moved out, 5000 sf of living space, to a 1100 sf double wide. it was bliss to move.
