You ask God that you want his will, and on the other hand you desire him and seek him, and this desire comes from God himself, as he pulls you towards him, so you can feel a sense of teasing, as he pulls you but never gives you enough to feel fully satisfied, it’s never enough. The desire is not quenched and leaves you somewhat dissatisfied, so this seems like some sort of paradox to me.

Perfection is in Heaven. Not sure about a ‘paradox’ as such because it is not that God doesn’t give us enough, this feeling of being teased is because as humans we are inclined to sin in this life, we are imperfect, so as we get closer we become more aware of our feebleness in His presence, our need to rely on Him, and are unable to sustain the extra grace filling our souls, aware of our imperfection. It is beautiful because it keeps us aware of the reward in Heaven that awaits those who don’t give up putting their trust in Him and striving to lead lives worthy of Heaven although we are not worthy. This means that Heaven, God Himself, is an eternal gift. It is a desire that keeps us moving onward and upward and a necessary one for our salvation.

C.S. Lewis says the fact that everything in this life leaves us unfulfilled is a pretty good indication that we were made for something more, somewhere else. We are merely passing through, this is not our destination.

My comment is that you should read The Fulfillment of All Desire by Ralph Martin.

A few years ago, I had a mole removed that might be cancerous, about a month after the doctor phoned to say he urgently wanted to see me, it was non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, our best friend had this cancer, and three months after being told she died. After the initial shock of knowing I had been given a possible death sentence, I prayed for the wisdom peace and serenity to do God’s will, regardless as to whether the cancer would prove to be fatal or just an inconvenience. I have never once prayed for healing, I can only say that from the moment of making this prayer, I have experienced profound times of peace and the thought of cancer has never troubled me at all.
