Paul says in the NT that it’s ok to desire greater spiritual gifts. Well, I desire a BIG one! I really want to be married to Christ. I pray about it all the time. I love Him so much and I am in love with Him. I don’t want anyone else or to be married, just be with Christ. My priest said I need to understand my baptism more. Not sure what he meant by that. But I don’t think it’s bad I have this desire. Maybe God is drawing me because I feel this way. Iv’e had lots of mystical experiences with the Lord in my life but this is the one I desire the most. Please pray for me! I know it’s a lot to ask of the Lord 😉

You should ask your priest what he meant. He knows you better than us.

Mystical marriage is the highest form of prayer. It’s ok to desire it, but you shouldn’t have any sort of expectation that it just “happens”. Mystical marriage only occurs after many stages in the path to perfection have been completed.

Look up the “9 levels of prayer”. Talk with your pastor or spiritual director and determine which stage you are on. Then focus your immediate efforts in cultivating the next stage of prayer. It is only when you finally attain the 9th stage that you have a chance of mystical marriage in this life.

I will pray for your intention.
Do you feel called to a vocation? (I don’t know if you’re a man or a woman.)
We have a newly ordained priest that said when he was on a silent retreat as a seminarian. He had a dream about the Eucharist when it Is held up and we quietly say, “My Lord and my God.” But, he said, “My Lord and My God; My Spouse.” He said he then truly understood the commitment, sacrificial love, and dedication to Chrlst, just as a married person should have to/for their spouse.
Is this what you are feeling or something like this?

Yes, I do feel like this towards the Lord. But you know as far as being a nun or something, I am a divorced female in my 40’s so I think it’s a little late for that. But I do feel called for something, i just dont know what yet. I just know I love God so much. When I came back to the faith a voice inside told me my patron saint was Catherine of Sienna. At the time I didnt know what patron saint meant so I had to look it up. Later I read more about her and became jealous that she had had this mystical marriage to Christ. Jealous in a good way, i mean like, I would love that to happen to me! I know chances are slim, but it doesn’t hurt to pray for it! 😉 👍

elohimrules,
You said you are divorced, not sure if you have an annulment or not, but I would definitely look into being a nun IF you feel the calling. Someone posted that he had a co-worker in his 60’s who was a widower and entered the seminary in Rome! If age is the ONLY thing holding you back; I would get some answers first! 🙂 And possibly, I’m reading more into that part of your post than you meant. 🤷
Peace and all good!

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

May Our Lord Jesus Christ lead you to Him, according to His way for you.

You might mean this?

I googled mystical marriage.

Arent we the Body of Christ, isnt the Church the bride of Christ. So therefore we are ‘as a bride betrothed to Christ’ (Catechism - google bride of Christ). Everyone! Also Nuns have that special Bride of Christ status.

Upon more reading I read that on Baptism we are the Spouse of Christ.

Yes, I have an annulment from the church. To answer another’s question. I think of mystical marriage when I think of St. Catherine of Sienna’s mystical marriage to Christ where Mary was present and He gave her a ring only she could see. This has happened to several saints. As our goal in Catholic life is to try and be holy, be a saint! Why not desire the holy gifts too?! I just know I not only love Him but am very much in love with him. Is it true that nuns still “marry Christ?” I thought that was an outdated notion. Which nun’s go to Rome to study. That would be fantastic! Anyways, just daydreaming 😉 I am an INFP on the myers and briggs and I have always wanted to do meaningful work with purpose in my life. Who knows, maybe I am being called to be a nun. But u know when I think how strict the life must be, I mean up early each day for prayer, regimented, etc. I wonder if I could do that. Sounds like the army lifestyle for the religious 😉 But yes, I do feel called to something, not quite sure what. At least I can take comfort that Moses was called I think at age 80? If i am right? blessings all!👍

That is an excellent article explaining the path to be one with our Lord Jesus Christ, using the metaphors of Doctor of Prayer, St. Teresa of Avila.

There are various other metaphors all showing the same path of perseverance, growth in virtue, etc.

I’m not familiar with mystical marriage but I will pray that God guides you on your path to this hope of yours.

God bless,

Mary.

Galatians 2:20 (RSVCE)

St. Paul said:

“I have been crucified with Christ; It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

When one is totally filled with Christ…that is the mystical marriage.

It is a process of practicing virtue and cooperating with the grace of the Lord. If the process is not finished on this planet, and we die in the state of grace, then it is my understanding that the process continues in Purgatory, where we are purified.

After reading this post on Mystical Marriage, I could sense the writer’s urgent desire to experience this.

From another perspective, maybe a Mystical Marriage ceremony doesn’t always happen because when a person is close to God that in itself could be a form of a Mystical Marriage.

A while back my husband died. I still miss him. It hurts when I remember how it was those last weeks and months. When he died, my protestant boss who is a member of a bible church told me “The Lord is your husband now.” I kind of shrugged it off, thinking that it was a silly thing to say, but I will have to admit that without Him life would have been a lot more difficult. Whenever things seemingly go wrong, I can hear inside my mind, “I already told you what to do when you feel bad. Pray to Me. Pray to My Mother. Say a Rosary.”

I don’t know if suffering is necessary to experience Mystical Marriage although some people
have experienced it and had the stigmata. It would seem a vision would be involved, too. Not every has visions.

Prayer to Love God Above All Things

God, my Father,
may I love You in all things and above all things.
May I reach the joy which You have prepared for me in
Heaven.
Nothing is good that is against Your Will,
and all that is good comes from Your Hand.
Place in my heart a desire to please You
and fill my mind with thoughts of Your Love,
so that I may grow in Your Wisdom and enjoy Your Peace.
Amen.

Praying that Jesus may lead you in whatever direction he desires.

God bless you
