Destination of Departed Souls?

I can’t believe I’m asking this but it’s a need-to-know question. First, I realize a soul’s destination is dependent on their life’s own actions. But does anyone know - has any saint, be it St. Faustina or other - given us some insight as to how we might learn where a departed soul is?

I’ve asked God for a sign often about a particular soul - but then remembered that saying about not tempting God. How can I get a sign? One that I’m sure is not my imagination or incorrect? Has any saint spoken about this? So very much in need of answer to this. I don’t know why I FEEL that there is some way of finding out - unless this is all just a very strong desire to know (and I **don’t **mean by using mediums or the like).

Why do you NEED to know?

We KNOW that saints who have gone through the canonisation process are in Heaven as canonisation is an infallible declaration.

We KNOW that Mary is in Heaven. Assumption dogma.

We KNOW that someone who dies in a state of grace is saved, albeit they might have to spend time in Purgatory first. However, as only God knows the state of a person’s soul at death we don’t know, for example, if our parents, other relatives, friends etc are saved or not. We can only pray that they are.

No, there is no way to know, except for Saints who have interceded through miracles.

Just pray for them.

It is a matter of faith, and I believe I should just leave it to the Lord. After all, who is more fair, just or merciful than He is?

Well one saint comes to mind, St. Dom Bosco.

In one of his forty dreams, he was brought to a beautiful place, so beautiful, it made him think that he was in heaven. Instead, he came to learn that he was in purgatory. There, he met some of the souls of the boys who had been in his orphanage. They came to tell him to tell the other boys in his care, to avoid immoral sins of the flesh, so that they could go directly to heaven.

3 places: Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell.
They fall into one of those.

As for trying to find a way to know any soul – you might just have to die first in order to find out…but don’t try this …it might not be true.

So far, the Church can acknowledge someone who is in Heaven through the canonization process, but you know this is not something for you to do - it is not your job.

Your feeling might be a distraction sent to you by Satan who does not want you to focus on what you need to; therefore, don’t get yourself so caught up over this feeling.

My suggestion is that you pray for an increase in the theological virtue of hope — an absolute trust in God that He will give us (or has given our departed loved ones) all the means necessary for salvation.

Entrust the person in question to God’s merciful love. Know that, whatever that person’s destiny, God treated that soul with the perfect combination of justice and mercy.

Don’t try to seek answers that God is not ready to reveal to you. That is very dangerous. He has given extraordinary glimpses to a few chosen souls, but that is not the way He normally deals with us. If God had wanted you to know the answers to these questions, He would have revealed them to you.

Perhaps the uncertainty is God’s way of drawing us into closer union with Him in prayer. As we pray for our departed loved ones, we grow closer in our relationship to God. And you can know that no prayer is ever wasted. If you pray for your loved one, and that person is already in heaven, your prayers will assist some other soul in Purgatory who is in need of prayers.
