Destroying Of Staues By Converts to Fundamentalism

This is a regular feature in our Parish statues are damaged and left at the entrance of the Church.This happens very frequently and is said to be done by Catholic converts to Fundamentalism.I cannot understand this if Fundamentalists also believe in Jesus Christ and if they accept that Our Lady was the mother of Christ why should they break statues of both and also those of the other saints.Do others have similar experiences?

Absolutely disgusting. I never understood how these people, as well as various street preachers, do not realize what they’re doing.

If one wants to discuss the usefulness of statues from a theological point of view - fine. But to go and attack a church’s statues…that’s sick.

Very repulsive. They say how they believe the whole Bible - so they should know that love is the greatest of virtues. But then, they worship a book and their own twisted ideas. What drew them out of the Catholic Church was a perverted version of authority and instead a Pope, they have a adopted another pope (preacher) whom they follow blindly because he will use his own interpretation of the Bible as The Authority.

Are we revisiting the pre-reformation days (Hussites, Reformers) and their antics of destroying statues?

I took it mean that the personal statues of the converts were smashed and left at the Church - sort of as a symbol of their “new found faith” - that they are leaving behind their perceived “idolatry” (or whatever nonsense Fundamentalists teach about Catholics )

It is not “said to be done by” anyone until the police have made an arrested and somebody is convicted. I would be very slow to attribute this to any group (youth gangs, fundamentalists, feminists or anyone else) without proof.

That being said there is a lot of anger out their against the Church, or against individuals within the Church who have hurt other people, whether maliciously and criminally, or unitentionally in carrying out their duties. There is particularly a lot of anger in someone who not only leaves the Church–that can be due to no stronger emotion than apathy–but deliberately chooses an anti-Catholic sect. When such anger exhits inself in pathological ways, that is time to call in the public authorities.

Sounds sort of like the urban legend of when Latino street gangs started bumping up against Black street gangs as the neighborhoods changed in ethnic make up. The Black folk would complain that graffiti would be put up on their churches but not the local Catholic Churches

Wish to clarify certain points which have been raised.As mentioned by me earlier this is a regular occurance and the authorities have been informed.However it is practically difficult to be vigilant 24 hours of the day and the Police have a problem.In addition to the damage done to the statues the page containing the prayer of intercession to our Lady is also torn off from a large number of the Hymnals which confirms our suspicion that it has been done by a religous group which has divergent views from the Catholic Church.It is difficult to imagine that a group believing in Almighty God and followers of Jesus Christ do not preach the Gospel of Love to their members
