Detail in confession

Hello everybody,

First, let me sat that I know that thoughts can be sinful if they are entertained. If I go to confession, should I just state that I have entertained impure thoughts, or should I state the sin I was committing in thought as well?

My previous thread went over how I cannot often times control my thoughts (I believe due to previous sins that I have committed). I don’t ever wish to entertain the terrible thoughts (or act on them [as they are extremely mean to the people involved]), but I feel such guilt in my heart over them that I wish to confess them.
 
“Confess sins in kind and number” is what I have always heard. I would let the confessor be the guide as to how much detail is necessary, but do confess all sins you can remember.

If one does not want them – if they are just coming to you against your will out of the blue – with no consent – they are not sins and are not matter for confession.

If you think there could be some sin but – do not judge they were mortal sins (not saying they were any sins) and one wants to confess them – one could simply make it very general - “I accuse myself of thoughts against others that I am not sure there is any sin in them --so as they are before God” or say “I accuse myself of thoughts against others that happened to me -if there was any sin which there may not be --as they are before God” or in the case of impure thoughts – “I accuse myself of thoughts against chastity (or modesty) -I am not sure there is any sin in them --so as they are before God” Or the like.

Without “diognosing” (we cannot do such here)

One is obliged to give kind and number for mortal sins only.

Again what I noted is in the case of one who has “unwanted thoughts” say coming out of the blue and are not consented to or not given “complete consent”

Ones confessor can guide one.
 
You should be specific enough that the priest knows what you are talking about without going into unnecissary detail.
