Does anyone have insider information about this college. Its pretty small so that might be a long shot. Does anyone know how to find out insider info? A friends son is looking at this college and they want to know things like, How do they support and encourage vocations?, How often do kids attend Mass?, How is the Catholic faith nurtured there?

if you know anything about this college or how i can go about finding that info on the web i would appriciate the help.

THANKS!

My DH’s cousins went there. They all thought it was a great school, and yes, one of them ended up doing his novitiate in the monastery after graduation. 😃 He eventually discerned it wasn’t meant to be, but I have it on the short list for my kids.
Actually, my son went to summer camp there a couple years ago, and he loved it. We went to mass with him the first day, and liked it. We were considering moving to Atchison, but ended up here. 🤷 Sometimes I wish we would have! It’s a very Catholic town. DH’s aunt lives there. 😃

I never attended Benedictine, but some of my college teachers were Benedictine nuns from there. I’ve only heard good things about it.

It is small, but they offer great scholarships. My babysitter hopes to go there, she got 10K, but the tuition is 30K so she’s still hoping for the ROTC scholarship as well.

My dad went there, but that was in the late 50’s so that’s not much help. I don’t know any insider info, but it’s a very orthodox campus.

If they seriously consider sending their child there and they cannot get information otherwise, they should go there and look. There are certain ways of checking it out. Go to the bookstore and check the religion textbooks used in religion courses. Are some of the books by dissenters? Find out who teaches theology. I work at a Catholic university where the chairman of the theology department for years was a Hindu. Others are Protestants. Go to their campus ministy: check out the masses. Do the majority of the students go? Find out what is going on there. At the one at my school for example, the university gay group meets there. They should find out if a gay group meets at the school at all.
Benedictine College may be a good school for all I know, but it is better to take nothing for granted.
I have found that if you ask, some people highly recommend a Catholic university where there are serious problems. Some studies have been made that compare what happens to Catholic students who go to selected Catholic universities with those who go to public universities, and they found that at many Catholic universities a proportion of the Catholic students lose their morals and faith while this does not happen at the public universities they investigated…

I am a 2001 graduate of Benedictine College in Atchison KS. It is definitely a very small community, but very vibrant and alive in it’s faith life. www.benedictine.edu is the official school’s website.

Mass attendance was recently gauged at 700+ students attending Sunday Mass, which is over 50% of the student body. There are 6 Sunday Masses for students, and 4 daily Masses, simply to accomodate the number of students who wish to attend.

There have been numerous vocations spring to life from the student body, with a dozen names I can mention from my 4 years there.

I have never been so savagely attacked as when I was an unfortunate student at BC. My good name was slandered and dragged through the mud for absolutely no reason and when I told the Director of Residence Life why I was leaving she said “oh dear, we do so hate it when that happens to students. Is there a priest you can go to??” Um, a priest who hasn’t been part of the problem? Lucky chance. And do you mean this happens OFTEN??
I have never been ANYWHERE where rumor-mongering was such a pet habit of the residents, including my current heathen university, which I can’t say enough good things about. But that is for another thread.
I do hope the student in question is able to make a better, smarter choice than Benedictine College.

I’ll be applying to colleges this fall, so I’m glad to have found this thread! 👍

To those who went to BC: are the majority of students from KS/Missouri, etc.? I know that it’s a small school and I’m just wondering if most people are from the area.
