It depends on what part of Detroit.
If you are north, around Macomb County, no better place to be than my parish!!!

PM me and I’ll get you directions.

Or you can go here and prowl around.

Don’t let the Slovak language slow you down. There is a nice Slovak community here but most of us are just Catholic with a capital “C” and many different nationalities.

At least shoot for May Crowning in the spring!

Another vote for Sts. Cyril & Methodius. One of the best parishes I’ve ever attended. I’ve even driven from Grand Rapids to attend Holy Mass there.

(I usually attend about 50 different parishes a year because I travel constantly for business)

How traditional do you want? Aren’t there a bunch of Latin Mass indult parishes up there, like St. Joachim’s by the highway?

Come to St. Josaphat’s along I-75 in Detroit. The Tridentine Latin Mass indult is every Sunday at 9:30 AM and Holy Days at 7PM. Holy Rosary is prayed at 9:05 AM before Mass.
See www.detroitlatinmass.org.

By the way, we will be having devotions in honor of St. Philomena after Mass on January 14 (in honor of her birthday) with veneration of the relic.

St. Josephat’s is the only ‘indult’ parish in the Archdiocese, but there are several that offer the NO Missal in Latin, including Assumpion Grotto, which does the NO Mass in Latin, ad orientum.

Another vote for St. Cyril’s in Sterling Heights. I love my parish. 🙂

I have attended St. Josphet’s in Detroit it was beautiful. I’ve also attended Old St. Mary’s in Greek town which is a NO in Latin.
My parish is the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. It’s a beautiful church. The problem is that I work Sunday mornings 😦 so I go to the 6pm mass. It’s a nice mass a lot of young people attend, but it’s one of the “Life Teen” mass which I’m not that found of. I feel like I’m listening to jazz hour more than anything else.
I guess I’m wanting a conservtive mass but not as extreme as the Tridentine mass. (Although I love the mantillas and skirts women wear). 😃
Thank you!

SS Cyril and Methodius has a 6:30 and 8:30pm on Sunday. Neither of which is a LifeTeen.

If you come to the 6:30 and you get Father Norbert, expect a good dose of reality. He will bowl you over with real Catholic. No fluffy stuff. Hellfire and brimstone.
God Love him!!!

My confessor’s brother is at Sts. Cyril and Methodius and I also know a Secular Franciscan there and it sounds SO wonderful! The faith can be lived very fully through that parish.

Assumption Grotto is another extraordinary place.

How I wish I had access to such wonderful parishes and holy priests and many devotions.

You MUST check out Assumption Grotto on Gratiot near McNichols (6 Mile Road).

I’m gonna check out this great church everyone is raving about.
When I go to another parish I always feel like I’m cheating lol but at least I’m going to mass right?

I don’t know what kind of traditional you’re looking for, but my parish, St. Anastasia’s in Troy is one of the best I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to a lot). The building isn’t very traditional…it’s very modernized, but the way mass is conducted is phenomenal. Today even we said the Kierie elesion (I know I spelled that wrong). I know a lot of parishes are trying “new wave” things like having non-priests give homilies and omitting parts of the mass, but St. A’s sticks to tradition. Not to mention the priests there, Fr. John Riccardo and Fr. Stanley Obloj, are two of the holiest, most knowledgable and charismatic men I’ve ever had the privledge to meet.

I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something on the north side of Detroit.

St. A’s is a great parish. However she is looking for a late Sunday mass that is not LifeTeen.

Isn’t that what the late mass at St. A’s is?

Hey there,

Everyone has sufficiently weighed in, but I will also cast a vote for St. Cyril’s. I’m rarely there for Sunday Mass, but have gone to the Sunday evenings, as well as weekday evening Masses. You’ll love it.

St. Anastasia is another great parish to go to, but their Sunday evening Mass is LifeTeen. So if that’s what you’re trying to avoid, it obviously won’t work for you.

You’re not kidding! Fr. Norbert tells it like it is. Whenever I find myself getting stuck in some repetitive sin, I go to Confession with him. He knows what to say to straighten you out.
