This is living proof of why it is important for bishops/priests/deacons to not ad lib, and say the black and do the red. Luckily he has been a priest for only a relatively short time. Imagine if he had been ordained 30 or 40 years ago.

So yes, horrible situation — but Archbishop Vigneron has set the right precedent of how to deal with this well:

Immediately, out in the open, and effectively making sure that everyone who may have received invalid sacraments, can now receive valid sacraments.

No brushing this under the rug, no pretending everything’s okay, no ignoring those distressed.

I’m applauding Archbishop Vigneron today and asking my guardian angel to pray for him.

In fairness, it wasn’t a priest who screwed up the priest’s baptism - it was some deacon.

Maybe Fr. Z should have discussed “Jackass Deacons”.
