Thanks Marian for that note.

To the faithful people of God
I ask that please no more of this Tridentine debating or arguing. This thread is not a place for traditionalist debate. Traditionalist debate is off limits. This thread is only open to the various Tridentine topics pertaining to St. Josaphat Church as well as those churches closely associated with it (Sweetest Heart, St. Michael’s in Windsor and maybe the Flint Indult etc).

So please no more of this Traditionalist debating or arguing. I implore those who come to this thread to please stop coming in here and trying to start a debate.

Thanks and God Bless

Just a bump to remind about the upcoming events already mentioned above:
  1. This Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2:00 PM: Fr. Josef Bisig, FSSP will be celebrating a Solemn High Mass in Windsor at St. Michael’s. A grand Christus Vincit is planned for the recessional.
  2. Sunday, Oct. 29 at 9:30 AM: Fr. Mark Borkowski will celebrate a Solemn High Mass at St. Josaphat.
  3. Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 PM: Holy Day Mass at St. Josaphat. Tridentine Mass will be held at 7:00 PM on all Holy Days (Christmas and New Year’s at 9:30 AM), and on Ash Wednesday, from now on.
And, tradconvert, all links on the St. Josaphat web site have been fixed. We’re especially happy to have our weekly Latin/English Propers Handouts downloadable on the Music page, and the weekly Tridentine Community News downloadable on its own page.

Just to emphasize the point, although it has already been said, Fr. Josef Bisig will be in Windsor this weekend. For those in the traditional movement, he’s like a celebrity! Every traditional-minded Catholic in the area should be flocking to this Mass.

As co-founder, former superior-general, and current rector of their seminary, Fr. Bisig surely has great influence in the FSSP. We should be trying to show him the great fervor this area has for the Tridentine movement, regardless of whatever may stand in our way! The best way to do this is through attendance at that Mass. Show him that people in Windsor and Metro Detroit really want to support the Tridentine Mass by coming.

I hope all of you coming to this Mass are as excited about it as I am. It’s not every day you get to attend a Mass said by a co-founder of the FSSP.

Just for fun, did anyone out there on this thread win the St. Josaphat Raffle?

Apparently not - no one answered

J/K

I just wanted to drop a sidenote to the locals who enjoy the visiting priests who often celebrate the Tridentine at St. Josephat. They - the Priests of Opus Angelorum - are holding a Day of Recollection on December 10, 2006 at Assumption Grotto from 2:00-5:00. Stay tuned to my blog (in the sig) for details which I should be getting Wednesday/Thursday. It follows the noon Mass and benediction at Grotto, but they often delay it so that people can grab a BBQ’d hot dog or hamburger in the gym before it starts.

Not yet sure of topic or if it is Fr. Titus, Fr. Wolfgang, Fr. Eusebius or a combo of the above, or other.

We have a question on another thread.
Do they use the Organ during the TLM?

Yes, the organ is used. In fact, we are starting up a campaign to purchase a better instrument to replace the existing one. Go here and read the Tridentine Community News issue about the “The King of Instruments” for more info.

Alex, I can’t get any of the articles to open. I’m getting a blank screen. Is it that I’m using Firefox?

net: I just tried Firefox, and it works fine. Please try reinstalling Acrobat Reader.
Oooooo! I may blow up my computer! I’m not allowed to install anything after the last time my hubby had to format my drive.
However, I do have an option to move into “mission control” in Daddy’s cave and boot the computer running windows.
Thanks for your help! 🙂

Details for the Opus Angelorum Day of Recollection at Assumption Grotto are on my blog here. Since these are the priests often seen at St. Josephat’s I thought folks in this thread might be interested. What was not provided to me is “who” will be doing this. Typically, there are two priests - one for each of the two conferences.

Speaking of the Opus Angelorum/ORC priests, they have just agreed to take on celebration of the Windsor Tridentine Mass at St. Michael’s, as part of a rotation with other local priests.

Long-time Windsor celebrant Fr. Ulysse Lefaive recently retired; a longer-term solution is being worked on in cooperation with the Diocese of London.

The ORC priests are currently scheduled for the 2:00 PM Masses on December 17, 24, and 25.

With this change, the St. Michael’s Mass has also been upgraded from a Simple to a Solemn Missa Cantata. That means Asperges and incense whenever possible. Additional altar servers and choir members are needed to support the more elaborate service. PM me or come to Mass if you are interested.

I guess this question is for Alex  Is there a place that we can see the schedule for the Windsor Tridentine Latin Mass like at the Detroit Latin Mass Website? I was told by one of the Opus Angelorum priests that they were starting to say the Masses there also. Is this different than at St Josephat? I don’t know the difference from the Simple to the Solemn Missa Contata. What do we have at St. Josephat? And will this change just be for Christmas or for all of the future Masses? Sorry for my ignorance.

InOurLady:

Excellent questions. First, the celebrant schedule is now posted on the Windsor web site. We were caught by surprise when our previous celebrant retired so suddenly; we are just beginning to line up celebrants right now. It’s week by week at the moment. Fortunately, several priests have expressed interest.

What you see at St. Josaphat, and now at St. Michael, is a Solemn Missa Cantata. Basically, that means Asperges (on Sundays), incense/thurifer, MC, and if enough altar servers are present, torch bearers. A Simple Missa Cantata has no Asperges, no incense, and only two servers.

This is not to be confused with a Solemn High Mass, where the celebrant is assisted by a Deacon and Subdeacon. We have those on special occasions both at St. Josaphat and St. Michael. In fact, we will have a Solemn High Mass on Christmas Day at St. Josaphat.

Occasionally a celebrant, due to age or personal preference, does not want an Asperges or incense. The Windsor web site will list if we will have a Simple instead of a Solemn Missa Cantata on a given week. But it is our intention to do the Solemn form whenever possible from now on.

You can read more about the forms of the Tridentine Mass in one of our Tridentine Community News pages here.

Thank you Alex. I understand the difference now. Is there a large group of TLMers at the Windsor Mass? I am delighted to see that St Josaphat’s TLM is well attended.

Have you ever experienced difficulty at the Border crossing? I guess I am a little timid about that. How long, generally, does it take to get there from St Josaphat?

One more question. So with the priests in the Detroit Diocese going to Windsor to celebrate Mass, did they need special permission from the Windsor diocese?

Thanks and God bless!

Alex, We have a conversation going on another thread about St. Albertus. On their website they state that they rent the church for weddings. Do they do bans or require Pre-Cana classes?

I know that the three churches are connected. I thought you might know.

InOurLady:

The Windsor congregation is about 55 per week at present, up from about 40 six months ago. The 2:00 PM Mass time is not the greatest; we’re working on getting a better time. Keep in mind that many at St. Josaphat today used to attend St. Michael’s before the Detroit indult began.

At that time of day, both going and returning, the lines for Customs at the Tunnel are short. As long as you don’t have a lot of stuff in your car, you won’t have a problem. Bring a passport or birth certificate. The Bridge is more backed up. If you intend on going often, consider applying for a Nexus Card. It costs $50 per adult, and is free for children 18 and under. It lets you bypass Customs in both directions. And definitely buy Tunnel Tokens for a discount on the fare. Total travel time from St. Josaphat to St. Michael: 20 minutes, including Customs.

The Bishop and Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of London are terrific. They make themselves available to the Tridentine community for advice and assistance. I cannot say enough good things about them. As for visiting priests, all they ask is that they fill out the appropriate diocesan paperwork that all visiting priests must submit.

net:

St. Albertus is not part of the St. Josaphat/Sweetest Heart of Mary/St. Joseph cluster. Rather, it was sold to an independent Polish group that has the Archdiocese’s approval to hold services there. There is apparently a proviso that if they fail to maintain the building properly, ownership reverts to the diocese. It is beautiful inside and worth a visit. A schedule of their Masses and events is on their web site.

I assume that they have to meet Archdiocesan guidelines for weddings, thus Banns must be published in the couple’s parish(es) bulletins. Not being a parish, St. Albertus cannot publish the Banns themselves. Same for Pre-Cana: The couple would have to take the classes elsewhere.

Thanks again Alex! 🙂
I would like to come to support that Church also. Perhaps soon.

Merry Christmas to all! May the blessings of the new born Baby Jesus be with you all!

I just returned from the St. Josaphat Tridentine Christmas Mass and it was the most beautiful Mass that I have ever experienced in my life! It was beautiful to watch, heavenly to listen to musically, and unbelievable to participate in!

The choir made me weep with joy! The celebrant, Fr Seitz, sang the Christmas Mass parts so wonderfully, and his homily relayed th love of Jesus so sweetly; it was just awesome! Perhaps I was just very well disposed, but I had to write and tell everybody what a tremendous and delightful joy it was to be at that most Holy and reverant Mass. I will treasure that experience as a personal gift from the baby Jesus as long as I live!

Blessings to all!
