One thing I thought was interesting was that he basically called Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta a saint twice. Do we have an impending canonization? Hmmmmm…

Did anyone else notice this?

No. 18: “…The saints—consider the example of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta—constantly renewed their capacity for love of neighbour from their encounter with the Eucharistic Lord, and conversely this encounter acquired its real- ism and depth in their service to others.”

No. 40: “… The figures of saints such as Francis of Assisi, Ignatius of Loyola, John of God, Camillus of Lellis, Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac, Giuseppe B. Cottolengo, John Bosco, Luigi Orione, Teresa of Calcutta to name but a few—stand out as lasting models of social charity for all people of good will. The saints are the true bearers of light within history, for they are men and women of faith, hope and love.”
…no I did not notice this on my first read…but a second read is on the way and I will note it this time, thank you.
But proclaim saint or not, Mother Teresa sure witnessed to:
—stand out as lasting models of social charity for all people of good will.
Peace…Barb:)

I totally agree. I think she may end up being Pope Benedict XVI’s first major canonization (at least I hope so anyway).

I had grabbed the text and made a .pdf file out of it. Then to double the (name removed by moderator)ut access (eyes and ears), I had the Adobe program read it out loud to me. Interesting juxtaposition–Papa’s words, Stephen Hawking’s voice 😛

I think it’s a great document.

Deus Caritas Est is now out on a double CD here in Australia and details on how it can be obtained can be found on the following thread. Its very cheap too!

I was in the Vatican mid February and I bought it at the Vatican bookstore. I am almost done reading it and it is the first encyclical I have ever read. I am about half way done reading it, and when I am done I will reread it. I am thrilled with it.
