Hi,

Can anyone think of any Catholic doctrines whose sole biblical support is in the deuterocanonical books? For example, even though 2 Macc 12 46ff is used to support Purgatory, this wouldn’t count since it is also supported by several passages in the New Testament. I couldn’t think of any and was wondering if anyone else could.

Well, we have to be careful of falling for the Protestant approach to the Bible, i.e., proof-texting. The Bible is the Word of God, and should be considered as an integrated whole, rather than snippets to be used as one desires. Jesus Christ is the Word of God, and He cannot be divided into pieces. 🙂
