Deuteronomy 32:20
“I will hide my face from them,” he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful.

I dont understand this passage…maybe its been chopped, but someone was using it in the context that Jesus, or God said it, and we are a damned … i guess, mellenia?? who said this and why?

Read it in context - and check out the footnotes:

**Duet. 19 "The LORD saw it, and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters. And he said, 'I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. They have stirred me to jealousy with what is no god; they have provoked me with their idols" **

**This is a justified and fair from response from God. Duet. 11: 26 "Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods which you have not known. And when the LORD your God brings you into the land which you are entering to take possession of it, you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal”

Duet. 6: 16 "You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah. You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land which the LORD swore to give to your fathers”

Then and now Mortal sin separates us from Gods grace until we repent, convert AND Confess as God directs
. [See 1 John 1:8-10, 1 John 5: 16-17, John 20:21-23 and Mt. 16:19 and Mt. 19:17[/COLOR]]. This act of denying God is the “unforgivable” sin mentioned in ***Mt. 12: “30 *** He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” But repentance, conversion and Confession can even remove this sin!

Love and prayers**

so…he gave them commandments, and, if they followed them, they were rewarded, if they didnt, then it would be a curse…

"and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods which you have not known. And when the LORD your God brings you into the land which you are entering to take possession of it, you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal”

and that curse was, that he would turn his back (or his face) on them? and instead of giving them the land that was promised to their fathers (Mount Gerzim) they would be cursed and have to live on Mt. Ebal? and what people were these exactly? Thanks for taking the time…I’m bible illiterate…😃

so like, one couldnt say that these people were, like, for example, black people? or africans more specifically?? like how they were taken from their land, and forced to live here, and are supposedly a ‘cursed’ people… its like this thing i keep hearing that the bible says that black people are descendants of a cursed people…

i, btw, am totally not racist- fyi …im just sayin what was said…

Good heavens no! The verses are for the People of Israel who were particularly blessed by God and yet turned their back on Him in seeking after false gods. To try to see this as God’s curse against a race or races of people is really whacko.

LOL!! aha ha ha! THANX! i nearly broke a sweat typing that…lol…

so where do you think mormons came up with all that??? Isnt that part of the original Joseph Smith stuff??? I’m not crazy… a lot of people seem to think that somehow the bible states that colored peoples are inferior or cursed…

kinda like the, oh what was it, when they came west, and they said it was cuz the bible, or God said they had the right to…ummm…Manifest Destiny???

I think it’s old folklore that the mark of Cain meant that Cain became a Negro. I’m sure it has racist origins! But the Bible never says what the mark was, only that Cain was protected by having the mark.

But the passage you are quoting is about the Jewish people, who were constantly turning away from God and worshipping idols instead. Poor God - no wonder he wanted to turn his face from them!

Read the context.

It was said to Moses about the Hebrews that were being rebellious.

It has nothing to do with black people or any particular race or religion. It’s speaking spirituallyl.

No doubt much of this belief arises precisely from the deeply entrenched bigotry of the time (our time is certainly better, we we have a ways to go in that regard). The mark of Cain is actually thought to be a reference to a tattoo, tattooing being a rather prevalent practice among ancient tribes.

The early Mormons, of course, sought to give the mark a meaning not found in Scripture, i.e., a curse from not having fought bravely enough - if at all - in the battles of humanity’s supposed pre-existence.

=Charlotte408-so…he gave them commandments, and, if they followed them, they were rewarded, if they didnt, then it would be a curse…
***Charlotte please accept my comments as a clairification not a criticism.

The word “curse” is a common term meaning a just repayment for their actions. If they abandoned God, then as now, there is a price that will have to “be paid.”***
***In the OT God often made clear the consequences for thir sins, so that there would be no doubt about the Majesty, Power and Justice of God. They were told if the messed up “X” would happen and it did.

In the NT we do not see the specificity of our sins the way it is expressed in the OT. But heaven and hell are cleary spoken of. And God provides in the NT numerous ways to return to His Favor, which we call the Sacraments*. All seven of them were instituted by Christ. Five of the seven hold the potential of aiding us in our heavenly quest.**

The curse was that they [the Jewish nation / the Chosen People] would not be granted access into the Promised land.

"Turning “His back” on them means to sever His relationship of Grace and assistance to them, such is the case today when one commits a Mortal sin. [READ 1 Jn. 1:8-10, 1 Jn. 5: 16-17 and then John 20: 21-23 and Mt. 16:19 and Mt. 19:17]
Should make it clear to you;)

If you have other questions we’d love to answer them for you😃

Love and prayers,
Pat…Welcome Home:thumbsup:

I believe this was fulfilled by the babalonian exile. When they were removed from the land given them through Moses. Isaiah speaks of them on their return. All is forgiven. God is faithful to his promises and forgives 7x70. Repent and be saved is the message of Jesus and all the OT prophets.
