Wow. If that happens, what will happen then to the Church in North Ameica?

The Church would go back to saying Mass and offering the sacraments from any place that is available. Frankly, it would cause the Church to shrink, yet it would also call forth true believers.

You know I am not thinking so much about saying mass because as you said, that can be done in any appropriate place. Right now our parish is in flux and we don’t have a permanent home. That’s OK, our parish is active, growing and enthusiastic.

What I AM more concerned with respect to the loss of buildings, assets are those who need these buildings such as school kids, retired priests or religious, soup kitchens, housing for homeless etc. I can think of several wonderful buildings in the diocese that house elderly nuns, priests, and those who cannot care for themselves. So much good work would not be done to line the pockets of attornies.

Lisa,

I agree completely with your concerns. Yet, I also believe that a smaller (less overhead in operating expenses) Church can serve the poor and needy very well. Do not forget that Catholics will continue to support the Church, and if all the buildings are gone, there will be less overhead to worry about…
