Hi:

Is there anything prohibiting someone from starting their own chaplet in honor of a saint or blessed? I’ve noticed that Blessed Kateri has her own chaplet, and I often wonder how this came to be…

A chaplet is simply a group of prayers. So no, there’s nothing wrong with “inventing” your own! As long as the prayers themselves are not erroneous 🙂

Indeed.

Well, every chaplet was invented by someone somewhere back in the day, yes? Some, like the Rosary, had several someones involved and developed and changed over the course of centuries. Others, like the Divine Mercy, were revealed in apparitions. Others I guess were just made up, and became popular because of the popularity of the saints to whom they are dedicated, such as St Michael, St Therese and Blessed Kateri. Personally I like the Infant of Prague chaplet.

Others aren’t quite so popular though. I’ve seen, for example, numerous different chaplets dedicated to the Sacred Heart.

So basically if you’re lucky in a couple of decades or so when you’re Saint Epistemes we’ll have Saint Epistemes Chaplet being said all over like the Divine Mercy is today  👍
