Developing a relationship with your patron saint.

Mine is Thomas the Apostle. How is one supposed to develop a relationship with their patron saint(s) and how can this relationship lead me closer to Christ?

I attended a retreat given by the Militia Immaculata (St. Maximillian Kolbe’s order). They are very holy. At the retreat we drew names out of a basket. We were told that the Saints had actually chosen us! We are to say three Glory Be’s each morning in thanksgiving for this Saint. We are also supposed to research everything we can about the Saint, and then ask for his or her intercession.

I ask for my Saint’s assistance. For instance, St. Margaret Clitherow was a mother in England during the persecution of Catholics. This woman took priests into her home and hid them. Eventually, she was crushed to death under a door overwhich they put heavy rocks, trying to get her to deny her faith. Now, I wonder why she chose the likes of me? It’s exciting to think about.

This Saint is your friend and companion. Speak to him as if he is a friend, because he is. Emulate his virtues and you will find that his influence will help you progress in your faith.

What I worry about is having more then one saint in my life. St. Francis as my birthday saint, and for my love of animals. St Mary Magdalene, patron saint of repentent sinners, and boy do I qualify. St. Philomena, powerful with God, to help me learn forgiveness of others.

And now Matt Talbot, to help me to continue to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Why do you worry about having more than one Saint in your life? Don’t you see it as a blessing that we have SO MANY that can help us if we ask? I personally have several Saints that I pray to everyday. And I will also pray for your sobriety. God Bless.

Well, if you’re like me and get nervous when you’re going to Confession, you can ask your saint and angel friends to come in there with you so you don’t have to feel so alone. You can ask them to help you remember your sins and to lead you to the right priest. Some good patrons for Confession are St. Padre Pio, St. Faustina, St. John Vianney Cure of Ars, St. Teresa of Avila, and your guardian angel.

Like the others here, i also pray to many saints. I need a lot of help.

anybody who can handle all those cats will have no trouble dealing with multiple saint friends, and don’t we all need all the friends we can get. Obviously St. Francis is the patron of animals, but do cats have their own patron?

According to a quick Google search, the patron saint of cats* is St. Gertrude of Nivelles. I wanted that job.:heaven:
