Devil May Cry metaphors

To me I noticed something with the whole message of The Devil May Cry, its similar to Hellboy and Blue Exorcist, its about Grace (even if the hero is a bit foul mouthed).

For example lets look at Dante’s father, The Dark Knight Sparda:

He was a demon who gravely regretted his crimes against humanity and God, he even wen’t as far to turn against his own kin and be ridiculed and persecuted by them, and even gave up his own power to seal away Mundus (who appears like a fallen angel, therefore a possible metaphor for Satan/Lucifer). His good deeds rewarded him a wife and 2 children, sure he and his wife were murdered by Mundus’ followers, but his sons lived. in other words, like Hellboy, Sparda was a symbol of fallen man working through the grace of God.

Dante himself: Despite being a grumpy complaining punk always does the right thing in the end, and always puts up with being seen as a ‘freak’ or putting up with debt (though he is a big guilt of sloth when it comes to that), he even mourned for his brother even when he tried to kill him, despite all what they claim about having hate to each other, Dante still see’s his brother as family

That is only in a book. The devil is always tempting people into doing the wrong thing. Sometimes the devil uses people to trick us into thinking that his plan is best for everyone.

I have never fully ‘got’ the Catholic teaching on Grace. But when it comes to DMC, I tend to agree with your assessment. Oftentimes there are those who call themselves devout and think too much in terms of black and white while at the same time cringe at the notion/sight/mention of otherwise depraved people actually being decent human beings.

That is only in a book. The devil is always tempting people into doing the wrong thing. Sometimes the devil uses people to trick us into thinking that his plan is best for everyone.
