When figuring out whether or not I want to go see a movie, I usually check out Focus on the Family’s Plugged-In Online. If you google it, you can find the website (I always type the wrong address in, so I don’t want to give it to you just in case). The only exception is when it comes down to Catholic stuff - such as hearing responses and opinions on The Nativity Story because I know Protestants view Mary differently than Catholics.

Anyway, it’s a good website to check out, although, I know it’s different than hearing multiple personal opinions. 🙂

I have not seen this movie.
 
I ALWAYS look at Plugged In Online.Its such a great site! I looked at the review and Im kinda on the fence.Doesnt seem TOO offensive.Just want some reviews.
 
I saw this movie. It is offensive in that the lead character is shacking up with her boyfriend and that is considered ‘okay’. I always hate that.

OTOH, the clothes are fun to see. And Meryl Streep is enjoyable to watch as the evil one.

The Devil Wears Prada – Entertaining comedy-drama about an aspiring writer (Anne Hathaway) who takes a job as junior assistant to an imperious editor (a delicious Meryl Streep) at a high-powered fashion magazine, while her friends, including her boyfriend (Adrian Grenier), chide her for losing sight of her real values as she gets caught up in the competitive environment. Director David Frankel’s adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 best-seller is a fast-moving morality tale with a commendable message about staying true to your ideals, with good performances all around. Admirably light on objectionable content. A couple of implied premarital situations (but no sex scenes), some crass expressions, brief profanity and innuendo, and a couple of uses of the s-word, making this inappropriate for younger adolescents. I’m going to get it from Netflix just because I like Meryl Streep & from what I’ve seen it looks like she’s doing Cruella DeVille in this film.

I read the book and loved it. I’ve delayed on the movie because Meryl Streep is dressed in such a way that the character in the book and the real life woman she is based on (Anna Wintour) would never be caught dead in such dreadful outfits. Apparently the big name designers wouldn’t support this movie because Anna didn’t want it to come out (and as editor of US Vogue she is really powerful) and so they refused to let their clothes be used.

In the book the main character does not live with her boyfriend so I’m surprised to see they made that change. But then the movies always stray from the book for the most part.

Yes the Pope wears Prada shoes but who can blame him!

Perhaps, but not everyone knows what the book/movie is about. I can’t find the thread, probably lost in the crash, but there was a thread started by someone who thought that the movie was a slam against the Pope. That’s what they got out of the title; then adding a post deliberatley making that connection could reinforce someone’s misunderstanding. I just wanted to avoid irate posters stating how sinful it would be to see the movie and taking a stand over nothing.

I can’t believe people would seriously think it’s a slam against the Pope - it has absolutely nothing to do with him! Quick synopsis: A young woman who aspires to be a serious journalist for the New Yorker ends up taking a job with a Vogue-like magazine as one of the editor’s two assistants. She sees this job as below her but because this editor is so powerful, she believes she can fast-track her career and end up after two years of service with a recommendation to the New Yorker by this editor. The editor is a nightmare to work for and hence she’s the devil and of course she wears prada. The young woman goes on to pretty much lose her soul to the fashionista world but then comes to her senses. That’s it in a nutshell. The demands of the editor are hillarious especially if you have worked with a boss like that and can relate. If you enjoy fashion then you’ll like the book.
