The priest during my confession today recommended a devotion to the infant child Jesus. I’m not sure exactly what the difference is between a devotion and novena and/or prayer, if there is any difference. Could I just say the novena for 9 days as my devotion?

Hi Cupcake,

I guess that I would say that having a devotion would mean having a particular following, if you will, towards that person’s way of life, for lack of a better explanation.

For example, I have devotions towards several different saints, including St. Rita, St. Jude, St. Faustina, St. Padre Pio, and St. Benedict, to name a few, off of the top of my head.

Here is a link about The Infant Jesus of Prague, if you would like to read more about it:

I am sure that a novena to The Infant of Prague would also be great. 🙂

Jesus isn’t a infant anymore…
No, he isn’t, but His incarnation as a child demonstrates ultimate humility.

A “devotion to” is a particular thought or imitation of a concept or virtue.

Yes, Jesus no longer walks among us but we can take examples from his ministry to mediate upon and imitate.

Regarding the Holy Infancy, I wrote earlier,
The example of the Christ Child is the mystery of Incarnation.

Christ was not only fully human, but a dependent child. To come to us as a child demonstrates humility, confidence, and innocence that we would do well to imitate. We are subject to earthly things, the need for shelter, etc. but not at the expense of our sould. We are subject to our institutions; the Church, the state, the family.

We venerate the statue as the Magi worshiped the Christ child: with t the finest we can bring. There is a twofold reason: first, to venerate Christ and his childhood among us. Second, that we may see and honor Christ in others and always present our best to our bretheren.

I could go on and on. The lessons of the Incarnation teach perfect trust without naivety. I have a special devotion to the Precious Lil’ Guy.

**Infant Jesus of Prague Novena Prayer

O Jesus, Who has said, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened,” through the intercession of Mary, Your Most Holy Mother, I knock, I seek, I ask that my prayer be granted.
(Make your request)

O Jesus, Who has said, “All that you ask of the Father in My Name, He will grant you,” through the intercession of Mary Your Most Holy Mother, I humbly and urgently ask your Father in your name that my prayer will be granted.
(Make your request)

O Jesus, Who has said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away but My word shall not pass away,” through the intercession of Mary Your Most Holy Mother, I feel confident that my prayer will be granted.
(Make your request) **
