How important do you think it is that a Catholic should have a statue or picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary in her home?

Are there many benefits that one would get from having such an image at home?

I am asking this as somebody seeking to be more devoted to Mary.

Personally, I think it is VERY important.

There are many promises contributed to having a picture of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart placed in the home, as well as a statue or an icon of the Blessed Mother. Each time you gaze upon the image, a pious thought will come to mind and it can also help you remember to pray more often. Devotion to an image or statue and its veneration is a good way to honour Our Lady more and more.

One reason, among many, that I think it is important:
Your home reflects who you are. Images of Mary shows that you are a Catholic and that you love Mary. People who come into your home will know where your heart is.

Another reason:

Mary brings beauty to a home.

Since it is said that the prince of lies flees at the even the name of Mary, I would think having her picture among the rest of your family might be a nice idea. 😉
You needn’t go to a lot of expense. Even a beautiful Christmas card with Jesus and Mary can be framed.

This can’t be suggested often enough! Years ago I found a lovely small framed picture of Jesus as the Good Shepherd. When I fixed the back, I found out it was an old sympathy card. Since then I have been framing beautiful cards. I get the frames cheap 2nd hand. Because they are small they can be hung in small places like between bookshelves, or clustered on a more open wall.

Yes!
You will have ACTUAL grace from having an ACTUAL statue or picture of Mary.

It says in the Bible that tissues brought from St Paul healed the sick and cast out demons.
So blessed items bring grace!!!

Satan HATES blessed items. He cannot bear being near them because of who they represent.

Our Lady of Medjugorje said in one of her apparitions, ‘Wear blessed objects and keep blessed objects in your homes as an ARMOUR against satan. And so that he will be FAR from you.’

The image of Mary is powerful! She is the greatest intercessor. She crushes the head of the serpent. Even in exorcisms the possessed cannot stand an image or statue of Mary.

The image or statue represents the actual person of Mary, in your house.

I’m sure you’ve read of the countless miracles worked by St padre Pio’s statue or image?
There are testimonies of cures and miracles. Any statue or image of a saint brings their intercession!

However :
The picture or statue becomes a SACRAMENTAL, when it is blessed by a priest with holy water.
It still has grace if not blessed, but it is not a sacramental without the above process

Agreed:
I read of a woman at a padre Pio mass. The priest had a big statue of Padre Pio on the altar. She went up to him with a little statue of padre Pio to be blessed. The priest said, ‘Hmmm … He’s not as big as my statue, -but he’ll do the exact same work!’

Images of Mary are very important. They should remind us to meditate upon her many virtues, and to attempt to imitate them in our own lives. They would remind us to pray to her often for grace, help and protection, especially, as another poster mentioned, protection against the Evil One.

I have pictures of my parents and in-laws in our home; why wouldn’t I have a picture or statue of the Blessed Mother, whom I call on as my own Mother?

My current shelving area has a nice white bust of Jesus Christ (bbHn), with a statue of Mary, a few angels, and St. Dymphna of smaller sizes. On my mantle, I have a nice statue of Mary, surrounded by angels, which is how I imagine she is.

Seeing her reminds me to pray, to be thankful, and to turn to her, as well as her Son and our Savior.
