Devotions of the days of the week

This may sound like an odd question. In fact, I wasn’t sure where to post it but I thought that perhaps the traditional Catholics will have heard of it if it isn’t my childish imagination. Anyway, I seem to recall as a child that each day was devoted to something. For example, I think Thursday was devoted to our Guardian Angels. Am I totally goofy or should I ask elsewhere? I wasn’t sure how to even research this or I wouldn’t have bothered all of you.

No, you’re absolutely correct, each day of the week and each month of the year has a devotion of its own.

A good source on a lot of this sort of ‘tradition’ is this site - fisheaters.com/week.html

By the way I wouldn’t call myself a traditional Catholic by any stretch, but I think it’s a beautiful part of our Catholic faith to mark the days and months in this way, and I try to do so.

Dear LilyM and also Helen Mary…I wanted to come back to this thread, and I know I am late - apologies, and thank you Helen Mary for asking the question and LilyM for replying with the link. I had forgotten this beautiful custom of dedicating each day. I have included the link on the Daily Liturgy and Prayers thread and hope you will not mind my picking up on your information and including it in another thread:o

I especially pray to St. Anne on Tuesdays, or St. Anthony. On Wednesdays, St. Joseph. St. Jude on Thursdays.

Hi BarbaraTherese. Of course you can, though I don’t really contribute much in here; I’m more of a lurker, learning from others.

By the way, I like your replies in the Prayer Intentions forum.

Thanks Fin!..I have put a credit into the Daily Prayer and Liturgy thread stating that the day dedication information is not mine, rather I have taken the information from this thread and giving the link. I thought that was the right thing to do.
The Prayer Intentions Forum is of particular importance to me and some of the prayer requests truly overwhelm me with sadness at what others are suffering…if someone has been moved sufficiently to ask for prayers, then it is rightful to respond that we will, do and are praying for them and there are quite a few of us indeed as you know that do. This is wonderful! Also it has struck me just how many do get a favourable response from God for their hopes.
With so many sites that have a Prayer Request section, people simply state their request and I suppose just hope they will be prayed for. If I was a prioress with Prayer Requests into a religious order, I would assign someone to respond to all requests. Probably why I am not a prioress amongst other notions and concepts that would be a deterrant…

Thanks Mary Ann:thumbsup: …if you read the response I gave to Fin just before this, you will sight that I am very grateful for the links and your goodwill re them giving this thread the credit for the information. Just at the moment I am about to go out and have to catch a bus - and they will wait for no man!!!:rolleyes: Thank you again.
