DHHS mandate question

I don’t follow politics much because it just infuriates me.

But sometimes that causes me to be ignorant on certain subjects. This is one of them.

Did this come about through some other channel than Congress (Senate/House of Representatives)? I don’t get how this can be forced on us w/o going through their first.

And if it did, how did it ever pass?

Generally, the Legislative branch just writes the law but the Executive branch determines how to implement the law. So, technically, Congress didn’t violate the First Amendment. It’s just how the Secretary is making rules that does so.

I understand that Congress is working on an explicit exemption.

The authority to mandate this was given to the HHS by the implementation of obamacare. Apparently some people failed to “read the small print” of the bill…

Remember we had to vote for it, before we got to figure out what was in it. Kind of like a goodie bag, with spoiled milk instead of goodies inside though.
