Diabetes getting worse

Please offer a few prayers for me.

My diabetes is getting worse and I am very afraid to take the medicine that my doctor wants to prescribe. It has such dangerous side-effects. It is as bad as diabetes itself. I am between a rock and a hard place on this.
 
O beautiful Flower of Carmel, most fruitful vine, Splendor of Heaven, holy and singular, who brought forth the Son of God, still ever remaining a Pure Virgin, assist me in this necessity. O Star of the sea, help and protect me! Show me that Thou art my Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee!

I know of no diabetes meds with “dangerous side-efffects.” I hope you take your meds, and regain your health! God bless you!

All diabetes oral medicine has side effects but most are not a problem to a lot of people. You might consider taking insulin. Even with that, if you are type 2, the doctor may still want you to take “metformin” which helps your body lower your blood sugar. The best thing you can do for yourself is lose weight. No matter how much or how little you weigh, less is always better. I hope you saw the good news this week, that diabetics who take care have fewer long term issues than ten years ago. Please take this seriously and live a long and happy life. Good luck.

Lord please bless Lakotak with all the means necessary to reverse this escalation of diabetes.
Help Lakotak to find peace of mind, and a safe and beneficial response to medication.

[Hi, it’s no fun to be struggling with illness. I have found that many medications including some I must take, do list some uncomfortable and even dangerous possible side effects, but these are worst case scenario. The drug people are just perhaps covering themselves so they cannot be sued, perhaps if something goes wrong.

Usually there are none of the side effects, or minimal side effects, especially after your system adjusts to the medication.
Hopefully you will find that you only have a positive response to the medications.
I do know several people who take diabetes medication regularly without ill effect.]

Are you on a proper diet to deal with diabetes?
 
Hi Lakotak. I’m about to share an experience with you, of which I hope you may learn from it and take your medications.

I am 57 years old, I’ve been an RN for 30 years. I was diagnosed with diabetes 8 months ago. I, also didn’t like the side effects and missed many doses because of this. Needless to say, my blood sugars was not under control. I am NOT overweight by the way.

On the week leading up to April 2, 2014, (yes 2 weeks ago), I had left arm pain, and a lot of shortness of breath on exertion. Upon coaxing, I went to the emergency room. I was wheeled straight to the cath lab, where I had heart catheterization, and a stent placed into my heart.

Please, please, please. Check that blood sugar, take your meds. I can’t stress it enough! My out of control blood sugars contributed to a 99% blockage in a main artery leading into my heart.
I know we can’t give medical advice here, and I hope that sharing my own experience doesn’t equal medical advice.
 
What med does the doc want you to take that has such dangerous side effects? I have not heard of any. I was on metformin and did have a lot of intestinal side effects. Is that what you are worried about? If so, ask about switching to the extended release version. When I switched to the ER version my side effects completely disappeared.

Remember to watch your carb intake. That’s the biggest thing for people with type 2. Eat lots of veggies and lean protein. You will start to feel better. Good luck!

The doctor wants to put me on Onglyza. He said because of the kidney disease that there are only a few meds that he can put me on. The greatest potentials on this is pancreatitis (sp) and pancreatic cancer. It also causes, or can, respiratory infections very frequently. My sister has lymphoma and this product, according to research, blocks the body’s efforts to not create tumors in the pancreas. With pancreatic cancer, you don’t know you have it until it is too late. This product creates problems with the immune system also. I already have psorisis and psoriatic arthritis which are immune system problems. Neither prospect is good, but I want to look into other avenues before I take this chance with something like this. I am going to loose more weight and I do eat lots of veggies and all the stuff I should.

The problem is that manufacturers don’t care what they give you as long as they make their millions off of it. I am finding out that FDA approval means very little in the way of safety too.

Dear lakotak,

Like you, I am diabetic and have chronic kidney disease. I also have spinal stenosis. I have taken Onglyza for the last two years with no side effects. I also take Glipizide and Metformin.

I came to the conclusion that the benefits of controlling the diabetes out weighed the risks of the drugs. I put my trust in God. If they work, great. If they don’t, I die and get to see Jesus. I don’t mean to sound flip.

Pray for God to guide you and your doctors. I will pray for you.
