Diabetics cured by stem-cell treatment

timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article1637528.ece

Diabetics using stem-cell therapy have been able to stop taking insulin injections for the first time, after their bodies started to produce the hormone naturally again.

In a breakthrough trial, 15 young patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes were given drugs to suppress their immune systems followed by transfusions of stem cells drawn from their own blood.

The results show that insulin-dependent diabetics can be freed from reliance on needles by an injection of their own stem cells. The therapy could signal a revolution in the treatment of the condition, which affects more than 300,000 Britons.
People with type 1 diabetes have to give themselves regular injections to control blood-sugar levels, as their ability to create the hormone naturally is destroyed by an immune disorder.

I am exicted to see that ADULT stem cells are starting to have lots of cases of sucess.

There is still no proof that fetal stem cells will ever produce a cure for anything. Why is there such a big push to do fetal stem cell research? Because the drug companies can not patent a person receiving their own stem cells. They can patent any drugs developed from fetal stem cells, since the fetus was murdered in order to get the cells who is going to complain. As usual, follow the money and it will lead you to the truth about why something is being done a certain way.

yep. i try to explain this to people and they just don’t seem to get it.

They enrolled Brazilian diabetics aged between 14 and 31 who had been diagnosed within the previous six weeks. After stem cells had been harvested from their blood, they then underwent a mild form of chemotherapy to eliminate the white blood cells causing damage to the pancreas. They were then given transfusions of their own stem cells to help rebuild their immune systems

Note that in the fifteenth paragraph of the story they point out these were not embryonic stem cells – the cells came from the patients.

I’m going to go take some tranquilizers now.

Our deacon, who is also a medical doctor, has stressed this point over and over again – in all the years that stem-cell research has been going on and the numerous of discoveries made, not even ONE can be attributed to embryonic stem cells.

But research using the most versatile kind of stem cells — those acquired from human embryos — is currently opposed by powerful critics, including President Bush.

Seems like the Media is trying to draw conclusions. If stem cell research is good than fetal stem cell research is better. Someone should write the editor.

Why not, while we are at it, raise babies to harvest kidneys, livers, and such?

The problem is that the media does not tell people where the cells came from in the headlines or first paragraph. It have been proven that the average person only skims the article after reading the Bold Print. Many people think they have enough information from just the first sentence. Sad but true.

I noticed the LATE reference to the source of the cells in our local paper too… not until the end of the article.

It HAS to be confusing for a layperson who doesn’t research this stuff like we do. I can’t blame the general public for not understanding because there is such a major bias in the media…

So sad.

BUT… back to the point of the thread… it’s AWESOME news! Another nasty disease that can be squashed by ADULT stem cells… 👍

MAybe we should all starting writing the editors…

Maybe we should all starting writing the editors…
Yes and when we do it make sure that you mention the use of non-embryonic stem cells as the source for these cures or treatments.

We have friends that are victims of diabetes. Some have cared for themselves and have lived long lives. Some have rebelled against the meds and life style and died at an early age. It is so sad to see someone kill themselves when a change in life style can help them remain with us.

Yup, I agree, adult stem cells lead to cures.

Pray with me that all experiments with fetal stem cells will fail, and all those scientists lose their funding from corporations and organizations that are looking for stem cell research cures.

And those scientists experiementing with adult cells will find viable cures! Praise God!

It can happen. With God all things are Possible!

The reason that the GOVERNMENT is being asked to fund this is bacuse they can’t get corporate or private funding. The reason being is IMHO God is alrady doing what you are praying for.:yup: :gopray2:

Even if fetal stem cell research leads to something, that doesn’t make it right. Next we will be cloning humans and taking the cells from the fetus. After that why not let the baby develop to 7 or 8 months and harvest from there. After all don’t “they” say, “A woman has a right to do with her body what she wants.”

Ask a five year old if a 4 week old baby is alive. A five year old will say yes, because it moving and developing. It is alive as much as a new born puppy. Try to kill a puppy and the “pro choice” people will be against that. But to kill a fetus is okay. I don’t understand the reasoning.

This is what I think is at the heart of the push to support embryonic stem cell research. If the government sanctions it, then they’re establishing that it’s ok to destroy an embryo. If it’s established that it’s ok to destroy the embryo, then they’re establishing that, in the governments eyes, an embroy is not a human life. If that can be established, that would support the position that life doesn’t began at conception. That, in turn, gives support to the pro-abortion crowd. The government will have given their support to abortion, and this goes a long way to swaying public opinion in their direction. The whole argument is about abortion. Stem cell research is just the mask they’re using to disguise it. That’s just my opinion.

Amen. And couple this with actual negative results (tumors, etc.) of work with fetal stem cell lines makes it clear that the true fruitful research is in non-fetal stem cell work.

God Bless.

But we have to tell people. Whenever someone brings it up we have to mention that it is fetal stem cells that people have a problem with and that the church and government support adult stem cell research. We have to educate!

No. Because they can patent the techniques used to extract, modify and use the stem cells.

Don’t blame the drug companies for this – blame the abortion crowd. Because once we accept that embryonic stem cells can cure diseases nothing else can cure, that justifies killing embryos. And that makes abortion morally acceptable.
