Is there a Catholic shop/store in your area that you could visit? This would help with your search.

Yes, but I was hoping to get some tips/ideas before I go so I know what I should be looking for or avoiding.

I have two. One is the Abbey brand, I bought it because that is what we had already at our church. It has s zipper in the front and velcro on the collar and for the cinture belt. I use this one most of the time. The only issue that I have with this one is that I have noticed that the velcro will grab the fabric and fuzz it up a little bit, so I am careful when taking it off and putting it on not to let it grab the fabric.

I also have one that opens all the way in the front and has velcro on the shoulders and in the waist area. It also has silver trim on the sleeves and at the bottom. I wore this one for my Ordination and wear it whenever I am not wearing a dalmatic (we have two deacons at our church and only one dalmatic, and we have 2-3 Masses each month where we both serve). Both albs are comfortable. Options you will have include velcro or buttons or zippers. If you are trying one on you also want to verify that you can get to your pockets easily, fortunately and thankfully I can on both of mine. As one of the previous posters said, you get what you pay for so get a good one.

The problem that I have is I have a size 18 1/2 " neck, so I need to make sure the area that is around the neck is ample. AT the seminary, I normally will wear a size L, but I could wear a size M if the neck was a little larger.

My question is the alb that has buttons. How forgiving is the neck on these? With the albs that fasten near the neck with Velcro, it seems you can make it a little larger if you need to depending on how you fasten the Velcro. Do you have that flexibility with the button up Alb?

You have to look at how the alb is stitched together and where the buttons are placed. Buttons can be moved a little. The albs with buttons that I have seen, have the buttons only on the shoulders with the right part placed on top of the left part. I have to look in the sacristy to see what kind of collars there are.
