Hi fellow Christians.

If there’s one thing I have learned from the (exorbitant? 😊) amount of time I’ve have spent on-forum, it is that we never seem to run out of put-downs for the PCPCU (i.e. the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, which is responsible for dialogue with other Christians) and official dialogues in general … while on the other hand posters love (or even obsess over) unofficial dialogues, especially posts on blogs and forums that lead to comments like “Wow, that’s so unfair and one-sided” or “Wow, that has to be the worse case of taking something out of context that I have ever seen” and so on.

No one ever seems to offer any justification for what-seems-to-me a gross inconsistency, but I hope that starting a thread on it might lead to some answers. :okpeople:

 :o

Doesn’t the work of the PCPCU deal with complicated theological matters which require effort, knowledge and intelligence to comprehend? Aren’t those blogs and forums open to the meanest intelligence and the most gross prejudice? Well, that’s why I’m here, anyway.

You have a point. :o But I try for a little bit of self-improvement, even if it’s only an atom at a time. 🙂

Perhaps those who would denigrate the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, a dicastery of the Holy See, should devote themselves to the actual study of theology. The current president is a remarkable and accomplished theologian.

I think the default position is extremely simple. There is only one Father, Son and Spirit, all working together in unity, we should do the same.

But we do like things our own way, hence we act towards each other as if there are a million gods to choose from.

I’m not anti-traditionalist or anything; but I must say that the comments from some of the more hardcore traditionalist Catholics (not counting sedevacantists, since I don’t even consider them to be Catholics) about the Vatican’s ecumenical endeavors are very troubling to me. Plus, the not-so-hardcore traditionalist Catholics don’t seem to have a problem with those comments, making it a “one-two punch”.
