The 87-year-old was criticized for not being aggressive enough in Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein plans to step down as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee in the next Congress, after facing blowback from progressives for her handling of Amy Coney Barrett’s contentious Supreme Court confirmation hearing.

Three people familiar with the matter told POLITICO, which Feinstein soon confirmed.

“After serving as the lead Democrat on the Judiciary Committee for four years, I will not seek the chairmanship or ranking member position in the next Congress,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to serve as a senior Democrat on the Judiciary, Intelligence, Appropriations and Rules committees as we work with the Biden administration.” . . .

Feinstein may not be radical enough for progressives, but she is also 87 years old. Perhaps she feels, after making her mark, it is time to call it a day, although she states she is continuing to serve on another committee.

Sure.

But other leftists wanted her out including Schumer himself.
Shortly after the hearings, several liberal groups called on her to resign from her position. One of those groups, Demand Justice, applauded her decision to step down. . . .

. . . After the hearings, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he had a “long and serious” talk with Feinstein. Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is next in line for the job, followed by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).

Durbin announced his interest in the post later Monday evening. . . .

We don’t know what Schumer said to Feinstein in that ‘long and serious’ talk between them. Maybe he was on her side but urged Feinstein, for the sake of party unity, to resign. Maybe he urged her to resign for her own physical health. Who knows what they said to one another? It doesn’t necessarily mean Schumer himself was opposed to Feinstein’s remaining the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Maybe yes, maybe no. I believe the young upstarts are opposed to Feinstein. Unfortunately, in many ways, they are the future of the Democratic party as it becomes more and more extremist. But I think they too will learn better with more life experience.

That’s OK. You can think that if you want.

I think Schumer DID want her out. And even if it was for “party unity” that in and of itself says something.

The other point is the leftist PR nightmare from the leftists demanding Feinstein go.

The Democrat leadership is intimidated by the AOC “wing” of the party. At least that us my opinion.

Retirement age in her native China is 85, so she is clearly due.

WASHINGTON (AP) — California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Monday she will step down from her role as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, giving up the powerful spot after public criticism of her bipartisan outreach and her handling of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings.

Feinstein, 87, said in a statement that she would not seek the position in the next Congress. She did not say why . . .

Feinstein won’t seek top Judiciary Committee spot after complaints from progressives

Schumer previously said he had a “long and serious talk” with Feinstein

By Sam Dorman | Fox News

Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., reportedly won’t seek to maintain her role as the top Democrat on the committee.

Feinstein announced the news on Monday amid backlash surrounding her handling of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation. . . .

. . . After the hearings, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he had a “long and serious talk” with Feinstein. Top left-leaning groups – NARAL Pro-Choice America, Demand Justice, and Fix Our Senate, previously demanded her resignation. . . .

. . . Feinstein received attention for hugging Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., at the conclusion of Barrett’s hearing.

“Mr. Chairman, I just want to thank you,” Feinstein said to Graham as the hearing drew to a close. “This has been one of the best Senate hearings that I’ve participated in, and I want to thank you for your fairness and the opportunity of going back and forth.”

She thanked him for his leadership.

“It leaves one with a lot of hopes, a lot of questions, and even some ideas of good bipartisan legislation we could put together to make this great country even better,” Feinstein said. . . .

In that same FoxNews article, Senator Schumer also attempted to carry out appeasement to the political liberals using left-speak to assure them
Feinstein will continue to work for leftist causes such as . . .
  • For legalized premeditated murder against Americans (“women’s rights”)
  • Pushing for illegal voting. At least currently illegal voting such as children voting, legal non-American citizens voting, illegal aliens voting, expansion of the Felon vote, and a host of other leftist vote gimmicks (“voting rights”).
  • Continued incremental destruction the Second Amendment (“gun safety reform”).
  • Expanding sexual deviancy protections like the ones against children that we have seen such as ignoring Planned Parenthood not reporting adults sexually abusing children, or the new California law OKing hiding the fact that they have AIDS from sexual encounters, forcing girls to compete against boys if they boy wants to think he is a girl that day and other “gender fluid” inventions (“civil liberties”).
  • Denying access to healthcare or at least insurance for people who don’t obey Democrat directives. And being forced to lose your doctor (“health care”).
  • Continued artificially deflating wages for workers disguised as worker advocacy. Pushing for more defrauding the wage earner by turning a blind eye to hiring illegal immigrants or granting them amnesty. And incentivizing illegal entry into America with the sky high [80%] rate of rape against the girls brought along (“the rights of immigrants who are yearning to become citizens of this great country”).
Here is what Schumer said of Feinstein . . .
a statement from Schumer read. "As a senior member of the Judiciary, Appropriations, Intelligence, and Rules Committees, I know Senator Feinstein will continue her work as one of the nation’s leading advocates for women’s and voting rights, gun safety reform, civil liberties, health care, and the rights of immigrants who are yearning to become citizens of this great country.
