Did Christ Come to Earth to found a Mass?

The truly fantastic qualities of the TLM are so obvious that it can’t even approach being called gnosticism.
I think rien was referring to the mentality of some who are fond of the TLM, that unless you belong to “the TLM Club” you’re damned. Some do take it to extremes, but you’re very right–that doesn’t make the TLM any less holy, in truth *and *appearance.
 
AFAIK, before Trent, there was a number of different rites, or “uses”. Like each village or town might have its own spin on the Gregorian Mass. So, at Trent, they codified it into one standard Mass.

The Mass throughout did differ per area, but weren’t so different that it seemed like a separate sort of celebration. You are correct, it was codified at the Council of Trent. From my understanding it was in order to do away with abuses and to foster unity within the Church…to clarify (rather than confuse).
 
Well, the Church does teach that the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life…
