Hi this is a really interesting documentary broadcast on the BBC, BBC2. It is called ‘Did Darwin Kill God’. It was broadcast on the 31st March. I really hope someone uploads this on YouTube and the other video sharing websites! It is also available too watch on iPlayer, the link below:)
There are some who believe that Darwin’s theory of evolution has weakened religion, fuelled in part by Richard Dawkins’ publishing phenomenon The God Delusion. Conor Cunningham argues that nothing could be further from the truth.
Cunningham is a firm believer in the theory of evolution, but he is also a Christian. He believes that the clash between Darwin and God has been hijacked by extremists - fundamentalist believers who reject evolution on one side, and fundamentalist atheists on the other. Cunningham attempts to overturn what he believes are widely held but mistaken assumptions in the debate between religion and evolution.
He travels to the Middle East where he shows that from the very outset, Christianity warned against literal readings of the biblical story of creation. In Britain, he reveals that, at the time, Darwin’s theory of evolution was welcomed by the Anglican and Catholic Churches. Instead, he argues that the conflict between Darwin and God was manufactured by American creationists in the 20th century for reasons that had very little to do with science and religion and a great deal to do with politics and morality.
Finally, he comes face to face with some of the most eminent evolutionary biologists, geneticists and philosophers of our time to examine whether the very latest advances in evolutionary theory do in fact kill God.

Not at all.

I just talked to God a few minutes ago, and He assured me He was quite well, thank you.

Lemon beam you are not supposed to post the same thread in multiple forums. Please go read the forum rules.

Just about three minutes into the first video, and it certainly seems hopeful. Thanks!

I’m glad that Darwin didn’t Kill God!

That would be the ultimate suicide since God created us, the universe and everything in it and He sustains our lives by His Love!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Not at all.
Incorrect. Like all other sinners, Darwin helped by his complicity in sin to put Jesus on the Cross.

That’s because He came back from the dead after three days…😛

you can’t kill God and has existed and will exist forever. I have little respect for Charles Darwin in the first place. I will not be persuaded by any Agnostic or Atheist who to try to change what God stands for in the first place. I will not deny God or put science ahead of God. Although we do need science in our lives and should embrace it, but Darwin well overstepped his boundries. In ancient times he probably would have gotten stoned for his belief or disbelief.

Umm, the host of the video in question is a believing Christian.

Just finished the videos, and I will say that it comports very well with the view I have developed (which means it must be right! :)). The videos rake two groups over the coals that deserve raking, IMO. Bible ultra-literalists (a very recent and unorthodox strand of Christian) on the one hand, and ultra-Darwinists (a very recent and unorthodox strand of Darwinian) on the other.

Now we need to get our fellow Catholics to stop supporting a false, Protestant-originated and promoted view of the biblical account of creation, and to go back to the ancient Catholic view. That is a key point. Catholic objection to authentic evolutionary science is not Catholic at all, it is nothing but an error imported from a strain of American Protestantism! What a fine thing it would be to get that word out.

Agreed, but good luck convincing them. There are many other strains of American Protestantism that have crept into the Catholic Church too - their view of the rapture immediately comes to mind. Some aren’t really all that damaging. Some, however, definitely need to be rooted out.

:eek::eek::eek: EGADS! Goodness! G.K. Chesterton really IS prophetic!

Get to the part about Ultra-Darwinism, then read, especially what I highlighted:
Evolution is a good example of that modern intelligence which,
if it destroys anything, destroys itself. Evolution is either
an innocent scientific description of how certain earthly things
came about; or, if it is anything more than this, it is an attack
upon thought itself. If evolution destroys anything, it does
not destroy religion but rationalism.
If evolution simply
means that a positive thing called an ape turned very slowly
into a positive thing called a man, then it is stingless for the
most orthodox; for a personal God might just as well do things
slowly as quickly, especially if, like the Christian God, he were
outside time. But if it means anything more, it means that
there is no such thing as an ape to change, and no such thing as
a man for him to change into. It means that there is no such
thing as a thing. At best, there is only one thing, and that
is a flux of everything and anything. This is an attack not
upon the faith, but upon the mind; you cannot think if there are
no things to think about. You cannot think if you are not
separate from the subject of thought. Descartes said, “I think;
therefore I am.” The philosophic evolutionist reverses and
negatives the epigram. He says, "I am not; therefore I
cannot think."
—G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy, published in 1909 (!!!)

God created evolution, so the answer is “no.” Besides, some of the brightest minds in the world both love God and accept the evidence for evolution http://www.issr.org.uk/id-statement.asp

StAnastasia
You never miss a thread to work your magic on StAnastasia, do you? Well consider this:

Darwinism suggests that man is a product of evolution that began with ‘natural’ life sparked into existence by the sun or some other worldly happening and transformed; one part becoming rats the other (only by chance mind you) becoming men and women.

Millions have been deprived of faith because of their indoctrination and acquired belief in evolution. Communism (atheism) embraced evolutionism because they needed a godless ideology and Darwin provided that, not GOD.

Not one soul has been lost to God for believing in direct creation.

Modernists like yourself want the best of both worlds, intellectual pride whilst remaining ‘Catholic’ so you invented a new religion called ‘theistic evolution’, an ideology or philosophy so full of contradictions that threads of a 1000 posts have not reached any Catholic position, only compromise after compromise on doctrines of the Catholic Church and the theology based on them as taught by the Saints, Fathers and Doctors of the Church…

Why anyone professing to be Catholic would want to destroy belief in direct creation and replace it with a belief that can be shared with God-haters is a mystery. I think your god is your own ‘bright mind’ and you consider that more important than anthing else.
