Did Elijah and Enoch go straight to heaven?

The fact that Jesus says “no one has…” could be an example of extreme language to make an important point - common in those days.

That is always one way to argue a point - Jesus didn’t really mean that we were supposed to take him literally, he was just using that ol’ Jewish hyperbole to make a point. Not that I don’t agree with that argument myself at times - I haven’t yet poked out my eyes or cut off my hands to help me avoid sinning … :o

I’m willing to accept that there can be more than one possible explanation.

I agree with you, Catholics can legitimately have differing opinions on the issue under discussion. The Church has not solemnly defined a doctrine about this matter as far as I know. More proof of why we need a church with the charism of infallibility to settles disputes when they arise. (I don’t think that the church is in any danger of being corrupted by believing Enoch and Elijiah are seeing the beatific vision.) 😉

My theory on all of this:

Enoch and Elijah were taken to another location by God, they were not taken to Third Heaven… They probably lived some time after this trans-location, as proved by the fact that Elijah wrote a letter after his carrying away… But I believe they died, because Scripture says Enoch went to Paradise (or Bosom of Abraham, which is abode of the dead), and Elijah appeared in Transfiguration with Moses, implying he died, since Moses died. My theory is, the bodies of Enoch and Elijah are preserved incorruptible in a secret location (this is why they were trans-located) until they Last Days when their souls will re-unite with their bodies (resurrection not like that of Jesus or Mary, but like that of Lazarus or Jairus), and they will be Two Witnesses of the Apocalypse and then will die.

Just my theory. 👍

This thread shows the proof of resurrection.

It is after all almost 9 years old. 😃

I think Enoch and Elijah lived just outside of the gates of heaven in the clouds.

I wonder when Jesus opened the gates if they came in then?
