Yes. Or, most of it. It’s 1384 pages long, and will certainly tell you more about the Spanish Inquisition than anyone would expect. And sometimes I felt like a termite chewing through a concrete block.

Yes, books are still around. All around me, for sure. Kamen and Peters: the place to start.
Thanks.

I would just say, The Church can’t control the governments they are living with, nor what they do to punish such folks.
No, but the church had great influence on the state and many times the state acted because of the urging of the church officials. At any rate, I’m glad we have moved away from a society where someone can legally be killed because of their religious beliefs.

Wow! that a lot of books. Do you have a recommendation on which one to start with?
Sorry, I missed this.

Given the mood I’m in, I’d start with Peters’ INQUISITION, but that’s not a sweeping general history. I don’t have and haven’t read all of either Carroll or Pelikan, but these are highly respected historians, who cover a lot of ground and you might start there, for two slightly different perspectives. Or, for simplicity, Hughes’ two popular histories. Hughes is RC.

Yes. We can be very grateful for the tremendous progress that has been made and that has carried us away from such a dark and ugly past.

I trust you have read Pope Saint John Paul II’s Ut Unum Sint and Vatican II’s Unitatis redintegratio and Dignitatis humanae as well as the work done at the time of the Great Jubilee 2000 in preparation of the Pope’s acknowledgement of the tragedies of the past, perpetrated by Catholics and now repudiated.

And you not only have those books but they are signed copies, I’m sure…😉

I merely showed the official statements by the Church in writing, on such matters.

Do some in the Church go rogue? Yes. But that’s NOT the official Church position.

It ain’t over yet.

while not legal
  • 911 was a religious statement.
  • so were all the other bombings and shootings we’ve had in this country by a certain group of religious people

Up to around 2000+ and climbing. Which still is less than 10% of the estimated total holdings. Expect to add a couple of dozen in Oct.

Not the one by Mr. Netanyahu, though.

Knowing you, I think even that copy will be signed…someday:)

Good post Father. I’ll take John Paul II over
Sexual temptation and lust are afflictions to which all men and women must to some degree bear and resist. Homosexual “lusts” are a particularly dangerous affliction because they are intrinsically disordered (wrong in all cases) and are commonly accepted and/or endorsed by the “Christian” and secular world. Sodomy is a mortal sin and is one of the absolute worst ones. It demands retribution from God and for this sin He destroyed cities and slew many thousands. It is probably the most dangerous sin right now, because of how prevalent it is and because weak-willed and cowardly voices within our own communities (who should all have been cast out a long time ago) have been silent on it or even (and this should carry a death sentence) publicly endorsed it.

I’ll forge the signature for a mere $100.00. I’ll throw in a personalized message for another $50.00.
Where’s my check book.

The inscription will need to be in Hebrew, of course.

My pile of historical signed books is a small one, comparatively, but I do have maybe 50+ of such. My main focus is fiction. But I get what I can.

a good thing for Christianity
I’d say it’s a “bad” thing for a cult,as in an organization, not for religion per se, coz now they have to compete with others without burning competitors alive, executing them , imprisoning them or persecuting in other more subtle ways with all the power of a state at their disposal. Which I believe is a good thing for religion. It’s too much of a temptation when you hold the power over lives of other people who you don’t like and who live and worship differently than you. In cases like this there always comes a time when you start abusing this power to fight “sin”, “heretics”,“sinners” etc
