Talking about John 8:1-7

The Law of Moses comes from God
And Jesus is God.

Therefore Once, God says to Stone adulterous women.
and after that, in Jesus he says: “The first who did not sin, throw the first stone.”

Why would he make a law to after that revogates it?

I wish someone could help me to solve that.

While Jesus does not authorize the stoning, he does not contradict the teaching of Moses. He places the burden on the Pharisees to make the decision. Ultimately he is placing their own trap on themselves.

Sentencing and the enforcement of the sentence are two different acts that can be carried out by two different people. In the Old Testament, the sentence is described. In the New Testament, Jesus is assigning the ones to carry out the sentence.

I am curious about this. Someone told me that it was seldom practiced, ie stoning. Then what do you mean that ‘assigning the ones to carry out the sentence.’ ?Did this mean that no one can because everyone has sinned except Jesus?

Does’t the Law of Moses say that both, the adulterous man and women should be stoned. Not just the women.

That is correct. Stoning just the woman while ignoring the sins of the man would, itself, be a perversion of God’s law.

Furthermore, in the old covenant it is the duty of the just people to ensure that the law is carried out. If there are no just people, then there is no one who is righteous in declaring penalty… and as the law was being perverted in this case, the woman should not have been stoned.

One will also note that Jesus does not condone the woman’s behavior. He doesn’t declare injustice correct by saying she’s innocent. He also doesn’t abandon mercy by watching her be stoned in some perversion of the law. He strikes the Godly balance between justice and mercy, and does so with immense wisdom.

The answer is simple. Because Jesus taught the teaching (from another source that isn’t originated from Abrahamic religion) which teaches love towards others regardless what others have done.

Anyone to whom God gives authority can assign the sentence.

The Pharisees were the rightful judges, but Jesus is getting them to empathize and show mercy.

It would have been much clearer if he had just said “please show mercy”

Some of Moses’ laws came direct from God – ie, the stuff that has “God said” in front of it. Some of these laws come about as punishments (for example, after the Golden Calf or after Baal-Peor), as God downgrades the degree of freedom or privilege given. For example, originally all firstborn sons were to be priests; this was amended to just the Levites as a punishment or consequence of sin.

Some of Moses’ laws are explicitly stated to have been created by Moses, as his attempt to govern the people. He had the authority as leader to do this, from God, but it is plainly stated that Moses came up with it. For example, Moses’ law allowing divorce, which as Jesus points out, came from Moses and not God.

You have to read carefully to determine which is which; and that’s why there are a lot of commentaries on things like Deuteronomy, which is full of laws created by Moses.

Any law that isn’t a moral imperative is open to change. We have been granted greater privileges by Jesus than the Israelites had, because that’s the status of our Covenant with God.
