Did God create the world literally in six days?

My daughter thinks that because the bible states that the earth was created in seven days that it actually was. Is this true?
 
Hi,

Scripture employs various styles of writing including, but not solely, the literal. Genesis was not written to be an exact description of HOW God created, but THAT He created.

When He created the world from nothing there were no days possible until AFTER He had created the sun and the earth. So there goes taking the six days literally!
