My 15 year-old niece has posed me a question I’m not sure how to answer. She claims that God planted the seed of rebellion in Satan’s heart and then banished him. She says God wanted this to happen; that it’s the only possibility.
I responded that God gave all his creatures free will and that despite the fact that Satan was his favourite angel and that God loved him, it was Satan who chose to rebel because he wanted to be as powerful as God. Satan chose to turn his back on God; God did not make him do so.
Her response was that God had to create the desire in Satan for him to want to turn away. Otherwise where would that thought come from? Hmm…
Any help would be appreciated!
Many thanks and God bless.
