When the Romans’ crucified someone it was to make an example of them. It was a death reserved for rebels. A person that was crucified usually didn’t die quickly. Sometimes a person would endure on a cross for 7 days. When Jesus died after just a few hours the Roman soldiers were surprised. One of them thrust his spear into Jesus side to make sure Jesus was dead. When “water” and blood came out of his side, it showed that his blood had separated, that he was dead. And when did Jesus die? Immediately after he said “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”
Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was within him as he suffered on the Cross. If the Holy Spirit had continued to remain within Jesus, would Jesus have remained alive on the Cross indefinitely? But where could the Holy Spirit go? Only where the Father sent him. Look at what happened almost immediately after Jesus death- the earthquake, the eclipse, the tearing of the temple curtain, the raising of the dead from the tombs. Are these events evidence of actions by the Holy Spirit after the Father sent the Spirit from his Son?
Look at the story of Abraham and Isaac. Abraham was told to take the life of his own son. He wasn’t told to take Isaac to a group of people that practiced human sacrifice. He was told to do it himself. Was this a foreshadowing of what the Father would someday have to do?
