Did God turn away from Jesus when Jesus was on the cross?

What is the meaning of Jesus’ cry, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me,” recorded in Mark 15:32? Did God turn away from Jesus when Jesus was on the cross as part of the punishment Jesus bore for our sins or did Jesus just feel that God left him as part of the experience of being human in which we can feel alone and separated from God during our greatest trials?
