Did I break the fourth commandment mortally?

Listen, I know that most of my questions are about the same kind of thing. It’s an eternal separation from God that I fear the most.
Getting on topic, at night, I usually stay up to go on my phone after my parents have told me lights out. Recently, I’ve been feeling something telling me to stop because of this commandment. I just kind of ignore it for a while and then go to sleep. Is this a grave enough matter to be mortal? If so, that’s not good because my dad has been getting mad at me for going to confession bi-weekly. Would it be possible to get absolution quickly before mass?
Is a matter such as disobeying my parents routinely such as this mortal? I find it hard to stay off my phone at night. I didn’t know if it was a mortal sin, so would that still make it mortal?

Okay thank you. I saw a post somewhere here saying that if you understand that any sin brings you away from God and you do it anyway it’s still mortal.

I’m certainly not going to say it’s o.k. to disobey your parents. However, part of maturing to adulthood is to test boundaries.

“Dad, I’m having trouble staying off my phone at night. Would you mind taking my phone and keeping it in your room at night?”

I have had this same problems. So my parents made this rule where I can’t play games on my phone until after 8:00. I kind of never listen to it just keeping it in mind and listening to it as a suggestion and not a rule. But after a while I went on my phone when I wasn’t supposed to and my parents knew, my way of justifying it is that I have to work all day I can’t really go on it much. So I guess they know I go on my phone and they are fine with it and haven’t said anything about it, so I just think it’s fine to now.

Ncors a quick review of your past posts demonstrates a tendency to scrupulosity and a narrow recurring focus on sinfulness.

That being the case CAF is not the place to ask these endless questions about sin and guilt - nor should members be feeding your excessive concerns by attempting to answer.

You will only get contradictory advice and in any case scruples is not an intellectual issue that can be solved by “answers.” We are anonymous amateurs, what do you expect?

You need to get yourself a Confessor who knows you and ask him these questions and follow his directives. Good luck and God bless.

when it comes time for phones, i’ll just take them away at night/when they don’t “need” them.
