I was LDS for many years. I’m sad to say that I played a key role in converting many, many people to the Mormon Church. I can’t even recall how many I personally baptized. A good many of them went in to marry and bring families into the church. I was doing what I thought was right at the time. I have since repented to the extent I can. Would this be considered a mortal sin?

I don’t believe so. If you were to lead people purposely to the LDS now(which I know you’re not) it could be a mortal sin. Remember for a sin to be mortal it must be grave matter, full knowledge it was sinful, and deliberate consent.

I’m sure back then you didn’t know it was grave matter or did you give full consent.

One day I’m sure the Mormons will convert. They’re very good people and quite talented. We’ll all get on the same page eventually!

Most of them are really good people who are just woefully deceived. I have a lot of hope for the ones who honestly investigate their history. I appreciate your positive attitude.

Chances are we’ll be taking choir lessons from a Mormon in Heaven 😁

God knows your heart, you believed you were doing the right thing at the time. Do not be so hard on yourself. You yourself are back on the right path and you and we can pray for those souls you lead to LDS that one day they will join us. God Bless:🦋 .

It’s simple, once you’ve been baptized Christian, your sins are washed away.

If at the time you honestly didn’t know that it’s a sin to lead someone away from the Catholic faith then it’s not a mortal sin.

Jesus is the model for humanity to strive towards. We will race behind him, we will stumble, we will fall. But in time, we will join him in the sun. In time, he will help us to accomplish wonders! 😃

The main issue is not into which Denomination you baptize a person into, the main issue is to whom do you baptize a person into? Into Christ Jesus… We are baptized into Christ Jesus, not a denomination.

That’s what I’m worried about. I baptized them unto a false Jesus.

  1. All those Catholics were already Baptized into Jesus Christ. There is only one Baptism.
  2. LDS baptism is invalid. They don’t have the requisite understanding of the Blessed Trinity. Therefore, all that it amounted to was washing someone in water.
Unless you’re talking about something other than the OP.

No.

You did nothing wrong in eyes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Regardless Catholicism, talk to a priest if you feel the need.

No.

For a sin to be mortal 3 criteria must be met.
  1. grave matter. Turning people away from Catholic Truth would be grave matter. You’re guilty here.
  2. full knowledge. You must have an understanding that what you’re doing is wrong. You were misled to the point where not only did you not know it was wrong, but in fact you thought you were doing good. You’re innocent here.
In fact, you were fulfilling the words of Our Lord in John 16:2 “in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.” You were killing Catholics spiritually and thought you were offering worship to God in so doing.
  1. deliberate consent. You freely chose to do this, but you didn’t know it was wrong. I would argue you didn’t consent.
So you committed a non-mortal grave sin. This can be forgiven with an act of contrition - simply ask Jesus to forgive you with a contrite heart and he will.

In fact, any sin no matter if its mortal, grave but non mortal, or venial, can be forgiven via an act of contrition. The only caveat being if the sin was mortal, you make a commitment to have recourse to the Holy Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation as soon as possible.

Don’t ache over it, learn from it.

Do you think God somehow lost control and is up there biting his fingernails anxiously over what you’ve done?

Everything happened exactly how it had to happen.

Now focus on God and your soul and the future.

@Lemuel Your recognition of the gravity and consequences of your actions is what makes you so precious and loved in the sacred heart of Jesus.

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation you will hear Jesus, through his priest, give you the assurance of forgiveness. You will be healed.
