I’m in treatment right now for scrupulosity, and my therapist asked me about Confession. I told her about one time where I was having a scrup freak out. I went to Confession and the priest told me to spread Holy Water all around my room. I kind of made light of it and sort of made fun of it because I get very comfortable with my therapist and say things I shouldn’t sometimes. I’m so thankful for the Priests and the Sacrament of Confession that God have as a gift to us and I feel guilty and ashamed about what I did. Do I need to Confess this?

How could any of us know that? You are pulling strangers on the internet when you should be talking to your counselor or priest. Please stop.

There are general characteristics of what mortal sin is that is generally agreeed upon by the Church. It’s not so abstract that some “strangers on the internet” (the majority of whom have more knowledge than me on this topic) couldn’t help me to understand.

Tell your priest about this. For a person with scrupulousity, asking questions like this on the Internet is a no-no. It only feeds your scrupulosity. It doesn’t make things better. You need to discuss these topics with a priest or trained spiritual director.

Nope. No one here should be answering questions your priest can and should answer for you.

Please talk to your priest and therapist. The variables of mortal sin cannot be determined by any of us. This is not helpful for your scrupulosity.

So you know the three elements of mortal sin. Please use logic to help you and posting on the forums when suffering from scruples is a horrible idea. I know you want answers but we are not qualified to form your conscience. If 99 people say it isn’t a sin and 1 says it is a scrupulous person would be tortured. People on these boards cant even agree on masturbation. Birth control, manslaughter etc as sinful.
