Hi everyone. First off, I want to remind you all that I am somewhat scrupulous. My spiritual director who is a priest told me that when I do this that I am about to describe, I’m not in a state of mortal sin unless I officially leave the Church. So here’s what I did. I have multiple accounts (sock puppets) at a different forums web site which I won’t mention. All of these have different faith icons that represent what faith you are. Well, I began to use one of my different sock puppets on this site. This site does allow you to use sock puppets by the way. Well, I didn’t post anything heretical even though I was tempted to do so. Am I in a state of mortal sin? 🤷

I’m completely at a loss as to what you are trying to say.
It makes no sense at all.

It seems like being dishonest to me. Just be yourself. Why do you pretend to be someone you are not? Most people do not appreciate it when they find out someone has had duplicate accounts and made contrary claims. It seems a lot like lying.

I’d confess it as venial and stop doing it.

Lying is a sin. The gravity is something to discuss in confession.

stop right there, no need to tell the rest of the story
“my spiritual director who is a priest told me that this is not a mortal sin”
end of discussion
for anyone
and most especially for someone battling scruples
that is the only person with whom you discuss your confession and your questions surrounding possible sins and offenses.
this is for the sake of your spiritual health.
once you have found a trusted spiritual director and confessor, stick with that priest. There will be no benefit, and possible harm, in discussing these matters with third parties, let alone on an anonymous internet forum.

If anything about your internet usage causes you problems, stop visiting those sites, for your own peace of mind but don’t start speculating about it being sinful unless your confessor advises you that way.

This is a good response. There is more harm in trying to collect a variety of responses to a spiritual issue than good. If your spiritual director has advised you on a subject than accept that and move on. By reaching out to others you are trying to hang on to something your director has told you to dismiss. Don’t do that. Let it go, follow his advise and stick to it. By accepting your spiritual directors advise and following it, you are being obedient to his spiritual direction.
