Today I didn’t read the Bible after school like I normally do because I wanted to get right to work on my homework. A few minutes ago, I watched a Youtube video with my mother and brother. It occurred to me that maybe I shouldn’t watch it because I hadn’t read the Bible yet, and if I had time to watch the video, I had time to read the Bible. I felt guilty after watching the video, but now I don’t know what to do. I’m probably going to go to confession tomorrow, which is good. But did I commit a mortal sin in this instance, because if didn’t love GOD as much as I could have?

I don’t think so. I’ve done things worse than that out of addiction so I would know the pain of mortal sin, sadly. I also know the feeling of when I come close to committing a mortal sin. I think the guilt you feel isn’t an implication you committed a mortal sin but rather a warning and a reminder that venial sin will eventually lead to mortal sin.

This is just what I think. If I am wrong, I am open for correction because I don’t want to be leading someone into sin and likewise commit a mortal sin myself.

If you had time to post this thread, you could have been reading your Bible!!!

I did not know that it was a mortal sin for a Catholic not to read the Bible every day? Generally, how much time do you have to spend each day reading the Bible so that you would not commit a mortal sin?

No, speak to your priest about this.

I think Jesus is more concerned with how we act than our behaviour. Just my opinion but I would much rather follow a good person with good deeds than a well read sinner.

Friend, it sounds like you’ve got quite a case of scrupulosity. I’ve suffered from scrupulosity before and I know how painful it is. Please speak with a trusted priest who can give you guidance and counsel. I will pray for you. :signofcross:
