Hi I’m new here and I couldn’t find a discussion that truly answered my question so I figured the best solution was to write my own. Recently, I stumbled upon a model’s instagram page completely by accident looking for another page and when I clicked on it, it was filled with pictures of her in bikinis and almost see through lingerie.

I initially clicked on the page because of her profile picture which looked like she was naked, but I did not do it out of lust or sexual motive, but simply because I was in disbelief (I know that may seem hard to believe, it sounds like an excuse)

I found myself looking through the page and coming across one extreme picture which I immediately clicked off of. I began to think if I committed a mortal sin and decided to take another look at the picture to see if she was, in fact, naked

I immediately regretted it and shut my phone off. I can’t help but feel like I committed a mortal sin even though I was not searching for those kinds of pictures nor did I want to or did I receive pleasure or any impure thoughts from them. I am in serious need lf counsel because I think my scruples are getting the best of me. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks!

There have been quite a few recent threads on this topic lately…

You cannot commit a mortal sin by accident

Conditions for mortal sin:

•Grave Matter: The act itself is intrinsically evil and immoral. …
•Full Knowledge: The person must know that what they’re doing or planning to do is evil and immoral. …
•Deliberate Consent: The person must freely choose to commit the act or plan to do it.

I feel that way too but I also feel that me looking at them again was in a way consenting to it

I also don’t know if my uncertainty is sincere, I just don’t want to come to terms with it, or Satan is tricking me into thinking that I’m guilty when I’m not (I HATE SCRUPULOSITY)

I sense, at least from what your post stated, that lust was not involved. Looking at a picture of a naked woman is not lust. Using a picture of a naked woman to arouse and/or satisfy your sensual/sexual appetite is lust.

Now that I think of it, that makes sense. I guess I got too caught up in the moment. I feel better now. Thank you!

I’m sorry, didn’t mean to cause irritation, just wanted a sure answer

The Catechism also states:
Putting oneself in a near occasion of mortal sin, is a mortal sin.

Only you can discern how deliberate, freely committed, and with full freedom, were these actions. (These three conditions mean a mortal sin happened).

If you are not sure, would you feel best if you did not receive communion until you confess this first? Then you are safe that you will not receive communion in a state of mortal sin (which is a mortal sin to do).

I’m most likely going to go to confession this weekend so I’ll be sure to confess this to be safe, I just wanted to clarify this in case (God willing it doesn’t) it happens in the future

If your left hand causes you to sin. Cut it off.
Bible quote.

Would your conscience rest in deciding to unfollow this person on instagram? Because as a single guy, looking at skimpy models is really putting to the test Jesus warning: ‘He who looks at another lustfully has already committed adultery in his heart.’

If this was sincere I apologize. I’ve just noticed a lot of new threads of “is this a mortal sin” and it usually comes across as someone just seeking to rustle jimmies to me

I’m not following, her it all happened by chance. It just so happened that she was a skimpy model. I would delete all of my social media if it meant I wouldn’t sin except I would alienate myself from the world around me which, I think, is a sin if one doesn’t inform himself about his surroundings. Also, I’m left handed (I don’t mean to joke about a serious matter, but it seemed fitting). Like G.K. Chesterton said, “the test of a good religion is if you can joke about it.”

Pray about it.

Pope Francis and Saint Padre Pio both refuse(d) to watch TV, as a sacrafice to God. And also to avoid the sin portrayed on TV.

Pray: What is God asking of you ,

Thats a good idea. I will definitely pray about it. In fact, I may just do it anyway and fit in more time for prayer or spiritual reading.
